Any post-operative pain and discomfort Francis is experiencing right now will feel like balm for the soul if and when he finally decides to confront the latest depressing developments regarding the Church's never-ending sex abuse crisis.Actually, Francis -- who has been anything but decisive or consistent in the way he's managed the Vatican's response to the crisis -- has a bit of explaining to do himself. A week before he was taken to hospital, the pope sent a brief, but disturbing video message from his apartment in Santa Marta to Catholics gathered for a conference at the Marian shrine in Aparecida, Brazil.

This level of candor from Mickens is both surprising and shocking. It's sure to cause a lot of buzzing in the hive.

Provocation. I actually don’t mind it if the Holy Father would offer some sort of constructive guidance and review of the mess he makes.
