NICE! FATHERS OF MERCY CHAPEL IN AUBURN, KENTUCKY…

 Please note they did the freestanding altar correctly: it ties in very well with the reredos and creates a sense of unity between the two. There are not two altars in competition with each other and the new one losing out over the older higher one. And there is harmony in everything!

It certainly is beautiful. I hate to sound like a broken record, but how much nicer it would have been to just have one altar, that grand high altar, used for its intended purpose.

I agree but there is a directive that prefers an altar be detached so the priest can perambulate. To celebrate ad orientem, the altar could be attached but our hierarchy is committed to “ tried and failed” and will keep on doing it at all costs! Einstein’s classic definition of insanity
