WOW, WHAT A TIME CAPSULE (FROM 1973, A MADE FOR TV BRITISH MOVIE) ABOUT THE SUPPRESSION OF THE ANCIENT LATIN MASS AND CHANGING DOCTRINE!

Here is the movie trailer for this made for TV movie which I watched on television in 1973! It captures the sentiment of many Catholics at that time! And it stars a very young Martin Sheen as the protagonist who portrays a "hip looking young" modern priest and yes he does just as hip priests were like that back in the 70's. Today it is those priests still Martin Sheen's age, meaning really old and not hip, who continue to play the part of being "hip" and in very high places !

It is uncanny how this movie shows the actual 1970's and how the 1970's mentality has returned with the current papal magisterium, truly uncanny!

Here is a six minute movie trailer, but you can watch the whole thing by pressing the link below the video:

You can watch the whole movie :

You can read a written synopsis of the movie by pressing the title below:

Well, here is a bishop who is brave and will likely be crushed by the Vatican for speaking "truth to power!"

Bishop Joseph Strickland of Tyler, Texas, called for the resignation of German Cardinal Reinhard Marx Thursday for the latter’s public rejection of Catholic moral teaching.

“Cardinal Marx has left the Catholic faith. He needs to be honest & officially resign,” wrote Bishop Strickland on his Twitter account, citing the cardinal’s pressure for a change in Church teaching on the immorality of gay sex."

Raf Vallone who played the heavy in this movie was the Cardinal and Mentor to Father Fermoyle in the movie, The Cardinal. In this movie, Raf displayed all of the "charity" and "mercy" of our current Holy Father with regards to the Extraordinary Form.

Bishop Strickland is also the person who supported Fr. James Altman, calling him "wise and faithful," in the latter's open defiance of and disobedience toward his own bishop.

Bishop Strickland is also the person who retweeted Jim Caviezel's speech in which the actor allied himself with QAnon conspiracy theorists, saying that we all need to listen.

Stickland is also the bishop who offered a prayer at the beginning of the "Jericho March" in December 2020, another conspiracy-laden event that was "praying" for the overturn of the election of President Biden on Trump's baseless Big Lie claims with which we are all too familiar.

Bishop Strickland is a faithful Catholic, a type you are unfamiliar with - in your world abortion is “healthcare” and teaching little kindergartners about gender identity is “normal.” You have no currency here

TJM said...

Fyi, because you rely on the abortion loving leftwing media for “news” you have no idea about the truth or falsity of election claims. If you really think a senile basement dweller received more votes than Barack Obama, I pity you. The election was decided in 5 Dem controlled cities after Midnight. The only mistake Republicans continue to make is not holding their votes back until all Dem metropolitan areas have reported their tallies. The Dems would have “defeated” President Trump using the same tactics in 2016 if they had not believed the polls showing Clinton winning in a landslide. By the way, France outlawed mail in ballots in 1975 due to widespread fraud so your European betters don’t agree with your Party’s approach. Most European countries also require voter ID, something your Party refers to “voter suppression!”

TJM, you say, "If you really think a senile basement dweller received more votes than Barack Obama, I pity you. The election was decided in 5 Dem controlled cities after Midnight."

And then you wonder why I won't answer your "questions" or engage in any kind of conversation with you...

As for "After Midnight," you should check out Eric Clapton's performance thereof...

I mentioned this movie a while back. I mainly remembered the end with Trevor Howard and his depression. He had lost faith to the point he was afraid to pray for fear of never coming out of his funk. That, and the cool helicopter at the beginning had a deep impression on my young mind.

Fr K,

You won’t engage me because I point out irrefutable facts which undermine your twisted leftwing world view. Here’s one more: Obama’s own White House doctor Ronny Johnson says Biden is in cognitive decline. Continue to live in your dream world where abortion is “healthcare!”

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Ronny Jackson, not Johnson, is a Republican representative from Texas. He served as White House physician after serving as a U.S. Navy doctor.

Of COURSE he says negative things about Biden.

A few tidbits about Jackson: "The OIG (Office of Inspector General) concluded, by a preponderance of the evidence, that Jackson had "made sexual and denigrating statements about one of his female medical subordinates to another of his subordinates"; that Jackson "drank alcohol with his subordinates in Manila, became intoxicated, and, while in his hotel room, engaged in behavior that witnesses described as screaming and yelling, and behavior that some complained might wake the President"; and that Jackson took Ambien (a sleep medication) during official travel, "raising concerns about his potential incapacity to provide proper medical care during this travel." In addition to findings that Jackson had "engaged in inappropriate conduct involving the use of alcohol" during two presidential trips, the report also found that he "disparaged, belittled, bullied, and humiliated subordinates"; "created a negative WHMU work environment"; and "failed to conduct himself in an exemplary manner and made an unfavorable impact on the overall WHMU command climate."

And "In late February 2021, Jackson and a dozen other Republican House members skipped votes and enlisted others to vote for them, citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But he and the other members were actually attending the Conservative Political Action Conference, which was held at the same time as their absences. In response, the Campaign for Accountability, an ethics watchdog group, filed a complaint with the House Committee on Ethics and requested an investigation into Jackson and the other lawmakers."

And "In November 2021, Jackson created a conspiracy theory that Democrats made up the Omicron variant of COVID-19 (he called it "MEV - the Midterm Election Variant") as "a reason to push unsolicited nationwide mail-in ballots" and to "cheat" in the upcoming midterm elections."

Not exactly a star witness for anyone to believe. Unless that person believes that Biden didn't win the last election...

Father, a priest hears Confessions and absolves. He doesn’t gossip about potential penitent’s sins especially to denigrate them for political purposes.

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Fr. ALLAN McDonald - First, as a matter of respecting the seal of confession, I will not say if I have or have not heard Representative Jackson's confession.

Second, the seal of confession has nothing to do with the published facts regarding Representative Jackson.

Third, if you were REALLY worried about people who denigrate others, you'de have shut down TJM's posts long, long ago.

If you disagree with Bishop Strickland's views on Cardinal Marx, then say so and give your reasons, rather than indulging in character assassination which is a) hardly relevant and b) decidedly unchristian.

TJM said...

Fr. K,

Apparantly Obama did not have a problem with the physician, so no sale!!! A lay person can tell Biden is out to lunch. And you may wish to chew on this:

Joe Biden’s 2020 win over former President Donald Trump, and even more feel that a key Democratic election reform scheme will increase fraud.

In the latest Rasmussen Reports survey, 56% of respondents said, "It’s likely that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, including 41% who say it’s ‘very likely.’”

That is a significant increase from April, when 51% said “Biden’s election was tainted by cheating.”

The change comes as Trump has continued to raise election integrity charges and as Democrats have tried to force through liberal election reforms and shut down GOP state voting reforms.

Democrats sure used the pandemic and COVID hysterics to grease the wheels of this operation, with secretaries of state bypassing legislatures to unilaterally change the voting rules on Election Day. In Michigan, it was only until weeks after the election that a court ruled that Michigan’s Democratic Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, illegally tweaked the voting rules. It’s obvious why she went this route; Michigan has a Republican legislature."

It is astounding that a Catholic priest is thrilled to have a guy in the White house who is rabidly pro abortion and wishes to harm young children through transgender ideology.

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

John - I hardly think that recounting facts that are readily available to any who can click a mouse three times amounts to "character assassination." Nor is there anything particularly un-Christian about repeating what is already known.

Bishop Strickland is, from my perspective, a denizen of the not-quite-lunatic fringe, and, as such, his comments regarding Cardinal Marx should be seen in that light.

TJM said...

Fr K,

And orthodox Catholics view a priest or bishop who votes for the modern Democratic Party as a card carrying member of the lunatic fringe and is morally and intellectually bankrupt. The modern Democratic Party is for infanticide, gay marriage, transgenderism, and grooming of young children in sexual matters. Wake me up when the Catholic Church endorses those matters.

And by the way, in La Belle France there is an election today: all in person voting, paper ballots, and voter ID. So when will your corrupt Party follow the lead of our European betters? I think the reason they do this in France is to avoid standard Democratic Party vote stealing practices, such as are articulated here:

https://www.thenewneo.com/2022/04/09/the-2020-election-is-still-in-the-news/

Bad news for the Dems, in Wisconsin at least, their Supreme Court has banned ballot drop off boxes which were used in November of 2020 because they were NOT authorized by the state legislature. That will put a damper on things there for the vote stealers!

John Nolan said...

Mike - It would still be preferable to hear you discuss Bp Strickland's views on Cardinal Marx on their merits, rather than judging them based on previous statements of his about other issues with which you happen to disagree.

It's rather like saying that you discount anything Biden says because he an 'abortion-drooler' who belongs to the 'party of intrinsic evil'. Now where have I heard that before?

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Johnny - Yes, I "happen" to disagree with a bishop from one diocese giving aid and comfort to a priest in another diocese who openly disobeys and shows great disrespect for his own ordinary. I hope you do as well.

All that we know of Strickland's thinking is his tweet: "Cardinal Marx has left the Catholic faith. He needs to be honest & officially resign." Has the bishop communicated with the Cardinal personally? Wouldn't that be a more appropriate way to address such a weighty matter? In making such an assertion, did Strickland consult anyone - a bishop colleague, his spiritual director, a moral theologial, an historian - before clicking "send?" (If that's what once does on Twitter. I am not a practitioner.)

One of the major downsides of Twitter and similar communications media is that they oversimplify complex matters. I don't think that's a healthy thing.

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Johnny - I read this recently about the message Twitter sends - again, I am not a user - and how it impacts our perception. "First, you shouldn't focus on any one thing for long. The world can and should be understood in short, simple statements of 280 characters. Second: the world should be interpreted and confidently understood very quickly. Third: what matters most is whether people immediately agree with and applaud your short, simple, speedy statements."

Fr K is our new Mark Thomas avoiding the acknowledgement of facts which fly in the face of his leftwing, corrupt, world. I can readily see why he likes Cardinal Marx

John Nolan said...

Fr Kavanaugh

As it happens, I agree with you on the Twitter issue and if you read closely what Cardinal Marx says, he is careful not to dissent openly from Catholic teaching.

Now, how about addressing me without resorting to an insolent diminutive of my Christian name? If you want respect, you have to earn it. That you wear your collar back to front is immaterial.

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Jack - How 'bout you get some understanding of the difference between Michael, Mike, and Mikey before you start carping about the sobriquets others may sling in your direction. Sound good to you? (And I would be entirely comfortable if you address me by my Christian name. ignoring Fr. ALLAN McDonald's unnecessary, artificial, and selectively applied rule about addressing clergy.)

I am very aware that Cardinal Marx chose his words carefully. His detractors, unaccustomed as they are to the specificity and clarity required in speaking or writing of matters theological, aren't. So, they read a headline or a tweet and, without sufficient reason, conclude that Marx is a heretic, that he should resign, that the Church in Germany is corrupt and corrupting, etc. 'Tis a sign of the decline of Western civilisation I fear.

That is precisely what Johann Hari was referring to in his scathing appraisal of the impact of Twitter and other social media on the ability of users to think.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

FrMJK, excellent self discovery in your last sentence. Indeed it explains so many of your unpriestly comments. Thank you for your self awareness!

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Fr. ALLAN McDonald, from someone who regularly announces the glaring and substantial weaknesses of his theological formation, you're not in the best position, I would suggest, to make comments regarding the content of what other priests post.

TJM said...

Fr K,

LOL - your comments reveal extremely poor religious formation and considering that you vote for the party dedicated to infanticide, gay marriage, transgenderism and child grooming! Your moral theology classes must have been truly “in depth!”
