JUST WHAT IS WRONG WITH KILLING TWO BIRDS WITH ONE STONE AT AN EXTRAORDINARY FORM SOLEMN SUNG MASS ON DECEMBER 8TH, THE FEAST OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION AS WELL AS THE SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT?

On December 8th, yours truly will be the celebrant for the Cathedral's EF 1 PM Mass which will celebrate, praise God, both the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the Second Sunday of Advent.

What will be extraordinarily special about this Mass is that it will be the first (as far as I know, and I should be corrected by those in the know) Solemn Sung Mass since the mandated reforms of the Second Vatican Council in the late 1960's.

In addition to this, the Cathedral's High Altar will be used which I don't think has been used for any Mass since the faux altar was installed around 1966, a horrid wooden structure below the high altar, in front which I was ordained in 1980 with two others.

The Deacon for the Mass will be Father Jean-Luke OSB and the Sub-Deacon will be Father Patrick May, newly ordained priest for our diocese. I suggested to him that he would make a great below par deacon. Dr. Felix Maher will be the MC.

BE THERE OR BE SQUARE, LAFAYETTE SQUARE THAT IS.

Hopefully you don't think the wooden altar at your current parish is horrid---the one some call the "Cranmer table", named after Thomas Cranmer, AOC in the Reformation times (that is, archbishop of canterbury, not Alexandria whatever her name Cortez).

I have seen a few wooden altars (tables?) in the Atlanta Archdicoese, like the downtown Basilica of the Sacred Heart and St. Jude's Church in Sandy Springs.

Deo gratias for Father McDonald. As God's holy priest, Father McDonald feeds his spiritual children via the Novus Ordo and TLM — the two forms of the one Roman Rite, according to Pope Benedict XVI.

How beautiful it would be if one Latin Church priest after another followed Father McDonald's lead in question.

Pax.

The best, fullest way to celebrate the Feast and the Advent Sunday is according to the pre-1955 rubrics. Therefore, I’ll go to the Institute of Christ the King Oratory this Sunday where the mass will be followed by a candlelight procession!

Ironically, the only way to hear the sung Propers for Advent 2 is to attend a Novus Ordo Mass, where the Sunday is not displaced by the feast.

It would appear from the photographs that the imposing forward altar will block the sightlines to the old high altar. Yet there doesn't seem to be enough room in front of the new altar to accommodate the ceremonies of a Solemn Mass.
