I should have laughed at this obvious cheese ball of a film trailer, but it just made me angry. There is soooo much wrong with it, but I'll just make one point. In my archdiocese the Archbishop is collecting funds for the retirement of priests and nuns of the archdiocese. They showed a film during mass of these nuns (but no priests oddly) that need the retirement funds for health care and living expenses. The film showed happy, enthusiastic retired old ladies in plain clothes, holding up protest signs; against war, against nukes, for peace. I was assured by the voice-over that they were doing this all for me but I can't help but think they were doing it all for themselves. No nun teaches in our catholic schools; no nun serves in our catholic hospitals; no nun appears on our streets in a habit with more regularity than a passing Haley's comet. I'm sure they've had a great time being feted by the world as being hip and with it, and as our Lord said they have their reward already. There are no more convents here; no young nuns to care for their older sisters, and not enough Catholics left to care. When the nuns left to fit in with the world it was like a mother leaving home to take a job. And when mother went away the children strayed.
When will Hollywood make a movie about Muslim women who gleefully strip out of their hijabs and burkas to join modern society and preach tolerance and equality to their Muslim men?
