THE GOTHIC TRAGEDY IN THE LOW COUNTRY WHERE I LIVE…

I have been hooked on the Murdaugh soap opera ever since Alex’s son, Paul, was involved in a boating accident while he was driving drunk, in the waters off of Hilton Head. A beautiful young woman was killed and it took almost ten days to find her body.

Apart from the heartbreak of that tragedy, we all wondered if this poor rich kid, Paul, would see justice or not. And there were indications early on, that he would get off lightly, given the fact that the Murdaugh family had such deep roots in the judicial system in this part of the Low Country of South Carolina.

In fact, by the time Paul and his mother were murdered in a gruesome way, there was radio silence about the boating accident. It appeared that Paul would get off and get off lightly. God bless poor Paul, that was not to be the case.

There’s been bombshell after bombshell concerning Alex Murdaugh ever since the murder of his wife and son. This all culminated with his arrest for the murders and the very fascinating trial that is going on now and that I am addicted to watching!

Is Alex a victim of drug addiction and all that this kind of opioid addiction entails from theft to murder? Or is he a classic example of a narcissistic sociopath and psychopath?

But, more importantly, where does God, religion, punishment and mercy fit into all of this with a person like this if in fact he is guilty and not just a victim of circumstantial evidence?????????????

Through tattered clothes small vices do appear.
Robes and furred gowns hide all. Plate sin with gold,
And the strong lance of justice hurtless breaks.
Arm it in rags, a pygmy’s straw does pierce it.
