AS I REREAD POPE EMERITUS I’S SPEECH ON INTERPRETING VATICAN II, THE FOLLOWING QUOTE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT SHOWS THAT HE KNOWS THE LORD, THE CHURCH AND WHAT THE BISHOPS CAN AND CANNOT DO:

The nature of a Council as such is therefore basically misunderstood. In this way, it is considered as a sort of constituent that eliminates an old constitution and creates a new one. However, the Constituent Assembly needs a mandator and then confirmation by the mandator, in other words, the people the constitution must serve. The Fathers had no such mandate and no one had ever given them one; nor could anyone have given them one because the essential constitution of the Church comes from the Lord and was given to us so that we might attain eternal life and, starting from this perspective, be able to illuminate life in time and time itself.

Pope (Emeritus) Benedict XVI, guided by the Holy Ghost, interpreted Vatican II in correct, orthodox fashion.

In turn, Pope Francis, guided by the Holy Ghost, has continued the correct, orthodox interpretation of Vatican II.

To insist that Pope Francis' teachings in regard to Vatican II are ruptures...that he has broken with the correct, orthodox interpretation of the Council...leads us to pit Pope against Pope...Pope Francis against Pope (Emeritus) Benedict XVI.

"I belong to Paul...I belong to Apollos."

I belong to Pope Francis...I belong to Pope (Emeritus) Benedict XVI.

To begin, Pope Benedict XVI, in 2005 A.D., had make it clear that he did not originate the concept of reform in continuity.

Pope Benedict XVI declared that said concept "was presented first by Pope John XXIII in his Speech inaugurating the Council on 11 October 1962 and later by Pope Paul VI in his Discourse for the Council's conclusion on 7 December 1965."

Pope Benedict XVI added, "...there is the "hermeneutic of reform", of renewal in the continuity of the one subject-Church which the Lord has given to us."

"She is a subject which increases in time and develops, yet always remaining the same, the one subject of the journeying People of God."

There is not a rupture between Pope Benedict XVI's former Pontificate, and Pope Francis' Pontificate. The Church always remains the same.

Our Vatican II Era Popes have interpreted/handed down the Council in correct, orthodox fashion.

Father McDonald, thank you for having allowed me to, in respectful (I hope that I have been that) fashion, have exchanged comments with you.

Pax.

Mark Thomas,

You are obviously ignoring what Father McDonald is saying, which is insulting. He has stated Pope Benedict is interpreting the Council in continuity with tradition while Pope Francis is not.

By the way do you think the Holy Spirit inspired the election of the Borgia popes?
