THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RETIRED PRIEST

On Sunday, I had the 9 AM Modern Roman Mass at St.Gregory the Great parish in Bluffton, SC. It is the largest parish in the Diocese of Charleston, where I live and work, but I am a priest of the Diocese of Savannah, where I do not live but I do work.

St. Gregory’s demographic is mainly an older one due to the nature of Bluffton, SC as a humongous retirement community. There are no crying babies at the packed Masses I have celebrated there.

Then at 1 PM, I celebrated the Traditional Latin Mass at Sacred Heart Church in downtown Savannah.

It is a young demographic with crying babies galore, who choose to do so at my brilliant homilies, which would be meaningful to these babies if they would only stop crying, and at the consecrations.

Here are some photos of the TLM for the 17th Sunday after Pentecost, not in any particular order:

And of course your experience is purely anecdotal with no evidence. Perhaps another survey would show the pews empty and silent. Nice pickup, by the way. Did you trade the Mazda?

Father McDonald said..."On Sunday, I had the 9 AM Modern Roman Mass at St.Gregory the Great parish in Bluffton, SC...at the packed Masses I have celebrated there."

I wonder about the following...in regard to that which many "traditional" Catholics declare daily:

Are the worshipers at St.Gregory the Great parish aware that they do not assist at the "True Mass?"

Are the worshipers aware that they have packed a Mass that, speaking spiritually, is "dead" supposedly?

Are the worshipers at St.Gregory the Great parish aware that they assist at a supposed Jewish/Masonic "Mass" designed to wreck the Church?

Are the worshipers aware that they assist at an "imposter" (Peter Kwasniewski's term) Mass?

Are the worshipers aware that God is on the side, supposedly, of "traditional" Catholics who work for the destruction of the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI...to be replaced by the TLM?

Are holy priest who offer the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI, aware that they are "part of the problem"...as they offer a supposed "dead" Jewish/Masonic "imposter" Mass?

Final note to St.Gregory the Great parish priests who offer the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI, as well was the laity who assist at said Mass:

God will destroy the Holy Mass of Pope Saint Paul VI.

Like it or not, you will return to the TLM.

"Traditional" Catholics have spoken. Many among them believe the above...they actually believe that.

But all is well within the Traditional Catholic movement.

rcg - Fr. ALLAN McDonald's experience is his experience. No one's looking for "evidence" that he had such.

When someone makes a claim based on his/her experience... ah, then we enter another realm.

"I ate an egg that tasted very sulfrous." That's experience

"Eggs have a sulfrous taste to them." That's a claim.

So, you see, there's a time for everythign under the sun. A time to have experiences and a time to refrain from having them. A time to make claims and a time to produce evidence that backs up one's claim.

I’m not sure what to make of RCG’s comment. There are no crying babies at St. Gregory’s because the parish has very few babies. There are no crying babies there because there are no babies. Not so for the TLM in Savanah, there are babies galore, given the younger demographic and most are crying during my homily and the consecration. These TLM parents are modern Catholics in the sense that they don’t take their crying babies out of Mass unlike my parent’s generation prior to Vatican II who knew that once a baby cried, they got up and left until the crying was gone.

The National Catholic Register featured recently remarks offered by Alex Begin, executive producer of EWTN’s Extraordinary Faith. From the article in question:

"Begin, however, explained that while every community has its “cranks,” the loud, toxic voices online claiming affiliation with the TLM community represent only themselves.

"They do not represent the Catholics who have dedicated time, talent and treasure to build living Catholic communities around the older Roman Rite and have the most to lose by not cultivating positive relationships needed to sustain them within their dioceses."

“The people who are ‘keyboard warriors’ aren’t the ones who get things done here,” Begin said.

I agree with some of the above.

But online radtrad "cranks...loud, toxic voices" do not account for all the serious problems that exist with TLM Movement.

There are TLM parishes, communities, and lectures at which online radtrads have been welcomed to speak to "traditional" Catholics who, in turn, offered strong support to said radtrads.

Peter Kwasniewski, for example, has been invited to FSSP parishes/TLM Community lectures/gatherings where his mutinous declarations against the Church have been applauded by "traditionalists" at said communities.

Michael Matt, Christopher Ferrara, Archbishop Viganò, Rorate Caeli, OnePeterFive, Crisis Magazine...the SSPX's nonsense...enjoy support within the Traditional Catholic communities.

Put simply, online radtrads have supporters within TLM communities.

Online radtrads, as well as their supporters within TLM communities, wage war against the priests, as well as laity, who belong to St. Gregory the Great parish, and beyond. The "beyond" includes decent TLM Catholics who have been tarnished by radtrads.

Somebody supports online radtrads.

My TLM parish has many babies and young children. They are welcomed by priest and adults. They are our future. Older parishioners bring them treats like cookies and soft-drinks as token for the joy their presence engender among them during the after-the-Mass social.

I am guilty of malapropism due to poor litotes. Too sarcastic for my own good. I am not Italian and can’t pretend very well. I have no doubt the TLM was filled with mewling infants and their families. I also believe the NO was filled with silent golden agers who love Marty Haugen and tinnitus.

Fr K is just bitter - he knows the Novus Ordo is a flop but is too selfish to learn the TLM, a proven winner, mostly attended by young people

TJM,

If you stop feeding stray dogs, sooner or later, they will stop hanging out on your front porch. As long as you keep feeding them, they will keep coming back.

TJM said...

Jerome Merwick,

I am not sure that would work because this stray dog’s target is Father McDonald, so I doubt he will go away. He thinks he’s a regular Walter Lippman, when he is a bore and not very nice. Have you ever see him compliment Father McDonald in a meaningful way? But the Diocese will be better off when he retires and moves to Sodom and Gomorrah of the North, New Yawk City where most he can enjoy the “benefits” of Democratic leadership and PAY for it, good and hard.

Dogs, Jerome, are known for their loyalty and unconditional love. Inasmuch as you and others here show little of those qualities, I am only too happy to be counted among the "strays" you thought you were denigrating.

Notice that people who complain about paying taxes never complain when tax dollars are used to help them, to make their lives better. It seems to be only when those dollars help others they they get to whining...

Fr K,

The biggest liberal Democrat I know personally, a multi-millionaire, moved from Illinois to Florida to escape Democratic imposed tax burdens in Illinois. I mentioned to him that his party claims “paying taxes is patriotic.” He smiled. I assume they think the working and middle class should be patriotic while wealthy Dems should be exempt. Now even Nancy Pelosi (net worth is around $100 million from insider trading) is contemplating a move from “virtuous” California to “evil” Florida. If liberals did not have double standards they would have no standards and all. You fit right in with that crowd for whom abortion is”healthcare.”

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Some wealthy people see taxes as a burden - they are not.

The only people burdened by taxes are the lower income folks who pay a higher portion of their income to the tax man. And let's not mention the tax "advantages" the wealthy can avail themselves of that may not be available to the lower income folks.

Well, let's mention a few, shall we? Claim Depreciation, Deduct Business Expenses, Roll Forward Business Losses, Earn Income From Investments, Not Your Job, Sell Real Estate You Inherit, Buy Whole Life Insurance, Buy a Yacht or Second Home, Open an HSA, Open a Solo 401(k) Plan, Defer Income, Harvest Tax Losses.

Paying taxes if partriotic. It is also paying the dues one owes for belonging to the club.

A multi-millionaire who isn't using the system to his benefit needs a new set of lawyers and wealth managers.

So you are completely fine with the Democratic Party crushing the little guy with taxes so Biden,Pelosi, the Clintoons, and the Bidens can live the life of Riley while producing nothing of value. At least people like Trump provide private sector jobs to people of all income levels. You breezily walk by the utter hypocrisy of your party, just like you alibi for them on abortion, pardon me, “healthcare.”

Fr. Michael J. Kavanaugh said...

Producing nothing....

The Pelosis own major positions FaceBook (44,929 employees), Apple (154,000 employees), Comcast (191,000 employees), Shutterfly (7,049 employees.)

All those companies provide "private sector jobs to people of all income levels."

The Trump organization employees 22,450.

But, of course, you think that what Trump does with his money is fine, but anyone opn the other side of the aisle is worthless.
