THE HOLY FATHER WAS STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR AND WAS LATE FOR THE ANGELUS AND NEW CARDINALS ANNOUNCMENT

Pope announces 13 new Cardinals for the missionary Church

At the Angelus Pope Francis reads the names of those prelates who will receive the red hat on October 5th, the vigil of the Amazon Synod.

After reciting the Angelus in St Peter’s Square on Sunday, Pope Francis announced a consistory to be held on 5 October for the nomination of 10 new Cardinals. He said that the places where these new Cardinals come from express the missionary vocation of the Church as she continues to announce the merciful love of God to every person on earth.

The names of the new Cardinals are:

1. Bishop Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot, mccj – President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue.

2. Archbishop José Tolentino Medonça – Archivist and Librarian of the Holy Roman Church

3. Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo – Archbishop of Jakarta

4. Archbishop Juan de la Caridad García Rodríguez – Archbishop de San Cristóbal of Havana

5. Archbishop Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, o.f.m. cap – Archbishop of Kinshasa

6. Archbishop Jean-Claude Höllerich, sj – Archbishop of Luxembourg

7. Bishop Alvaro L. Ramazzini Imeri – Bishop di Huehuetenamgo

8. Archbishop Matteo Zuppi – Archbishop of Bologna.

9. Archbishop Cristóbal López Romero, sdb – Archbishop of Rabat

10. Father Michael Czerny, sj – Undersecretary of the Migrants and Refugees Section of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Development

Along with these new Cardinals, the Pope is adding two Archbishops and a Bishop who have served the Church in a distinguished way:

1. Archbishop Michael Louis Fitzgerald – Archbishop Emeritus of Nepte

2. Archbishop Sigitas Tamkevicius, sj – Archbishop Emeritus of Kaunas

3. Bishop Eugenio Dal Corso, psdp – Bishop Emeritus of Benguela

Let us pray for the new Cardinals so that, confirming their adhesion to Christ, they might help in my ministry as Bishop of Rome for the good of all the faithful Holy People of God.

I had the opportunity to have Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, M.Afr., as an instructor in Islam and interreligious relations in three or four of the courses I have taken over the years.

His last official assignment was Nuncio to Egypt and Vatican Delegate to the League of Arab States. He held that position for 6 years, resigning in 2012. He is a member of the Missionaries of Africa and has lived with them in Jerusalem since his resignation.

This is a well-deserved recognition of his service in this very difficult and demanding work.

VATICAN ARCHBISHOP CRITICIZES POPE
DOMENICO BETTINELLI MARCH 30TH, 2006 12 COMMENTS VATICAN NEWS
Talking about the slamming the door behind you on your way out. Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald was recently reassigned from heading the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue to become nuncio to Egypt, which most people saw as a demotion, perhaps because Pope Benedict didn’t like Fitzgerald’s role in the disastrous Assisi interreligious meetings. Then, Pope Benedict made Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, also head of Interreligious Dialogue, leading some to think those councils would be merged.

Fitzgerald is apparently unhappy about that and is making his unhappiness with the Holy Father’s decision known. He told a seminar in Rome that inter-religious dialogue shouldn’t be seen as just another aspect of cultural discussions. That sounds rather mild, and perhaps it is by American standards where we’re used to seeing priests flaunt heretical opinions in the mass media. But in Rome, that’s a big no-no.

So far, Francis' appointments have been disappointing, e.g. Cupich of Chicago.

I'm surprised Monsignor Ricca, who has some expertise here, didn't have him out sooner.

Archbishop Fitzgerald's transfer to Egypt/The Arab League was not seen as a demotion by him or by his Catholic colleagues in interreligious dialogue.

One comment on Bettinelli's website on this story is, "I hope the abp [Fitzgerald] likes purple, he’ll be staying that color, won’t he now." (sic)

No, Meg Q, who posted that comment on March 30, 2006, he is not staying that color. I hope he likes his cardinalatial red...

"Pope Francis attributed the delay to an electrical problem at the Vatican, and called on the crowd to applaud the firefighters who had freed him."

He must be kidding. Generating electricity is bad for the environment, and fire engines require fossil fuels.

Dan,

I hope PF has shut off the air conditioning, banned meat and newborns if he wants to remain in good standing with the Global Warming Religion!

In the matter of Zuppi of Bologna:

It is not at all usual that the Italian see of Bologna would have a cardinal’s hat. Remember that the late Dubia Cardinal Caffarra was in Bologna. As if to snuff out the very memory of the man who sent in the Dubia and who had, previously, founded the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and the Family, and who had received the note from Sr. Lucia saying that the Enemies last battleground was the family, a certain Archbp. Matteo Zuppi was appointed to Bologna.

Zuppi wrote the forward to the Italian translation of the infamous homosexualist manifesto by the Jesuit James Martin.

He also called for the building of mosques and Islamic celebrations in schools.

LOL

There is more wisdom and insight in this article by a humble parish priest, than you will find in the writings of any of the above:

Many of you may be familiar with the author, Father Cipolla
