THIS IS WHAT IS WRONG WITH CATHOLIC CHURCH ARCHITECTURE, AND ORDINARY FORM MASS MUSIC AND LITURGY

I understand this new bishop is very orthodox. Maybe he can upright the ship of liturgy there?

The architecture of this church is Rambusch, I am certain of it by the manner in which the altar platform, can't really call it a sanctuary, is thrust into the nave with seating all around and choir behind and the placement of altar, ambo and chair but the addition of the ridiculous song leader's podium added.  Rambush did this to my first parish at St. Teresa in Albany, Georgia around 1981 or so. For the most part it's been undone there but not here!

And the music for a bishop's installation--bar style piano music and the playing of a movie's theme song! And the happy, clappy bantering leading to laughs and applause. Jay Leno would applaud that too I am sure--great comedy routine.

And the damnable version of the Litany of the Saints that is selected which was outlawed with the new English translation of the Litany! Illicit to say the least!

Can anyone really take any of this seriously?

And this is called renewal of the liturgy. O my! And we wonder why no one seems to take the Mass seriously any more, so many don't come and those who do attend Mass don't really believe what the Jesus teaches about the Most Holy Eucharist. Where is the awe, wonder and reverence which for centuries characterized the Mass and Vatican II actually wanted to maintain?

Let me put it this way: I didn't feel the reverence. Why was the choir behind the altar? Why did the "leader of song" feel compelled to raise her hands (palms up as she was taught) if, after 40+ years of the post Vatican II Mass, people still don't when to respond yet? It seemed to me there was too much emphasis on the music such as the quality of it was. I agree too, that Becker version of the Litany of the Saints should be ash-canned; especially since it includes saints not in the official liturgy. I always expect them to sing, "Peter, Paul and Mary" (the folk group); "Larry, Moe and Curly"....

I think the worst part of the Vatican II inspired new liturgy was the destruction of the sanctuary. Once that small space was overrun and captured by the angry mob, the entire structure began to crumble. The Mass was no longer prayers and rituals said and preformed by a priest, it was something under the control of a few opinionated parishioners. Even if altar rails aren't used, they still serve a purpose. I guess that's why they were destroyed.

I blipped through the service video, and it brought back so many memories of a fundamentalist protestant childhood of many a missed Sunday at church,... when the only thing on one of the 2 or 3 teevee stations at that time and day and date, would have on only some Mormon Tabernacle service, or by some local Baptist church of Billy Graham styling...

There was also a "Mass for shut-ins" by the local.Archbishop broadcast a bit later, but there was nothing about it to capture a child's attention...

Meanwhile, that linked Catholic installation was exactly as a cross between the Mormon and Baptist services, except the Baptists would be kneeling while being counciled and saved...

Having architectural spaces that inspire a sense of awe and reverence, might make these spaces seem more special than other spaces.

This leads to the sin of "spacism."
