But at a short meeting, the Cardinals in the Consistory wanted to focus on Church governance and getting back to the basics of evangelization. The time for correcting the path of the liturgy will come soon.
This interview on Friday, January 9th with Cardinal Muller is well worth the listen and lasts 20 minutes or so:

It is a given that Pope Leo XIV will pronounce upon liturgy.
Far more important than that, I believe, is that toward the end of his interview in question with Cardinal Müller, Raymond Arroyo presented the notion that the "collapse" of the Church is linked to the Council.
(At the 18:00 mark.)
Cardinal Müller rejected that notion. He is a man of, and staunch supporter, of the Second Sacred Vatican Ecumenical Council.
But then, that is what Holy Mother Church has commanded of us.

It is wrong to say that Vatican II has led to the collaspe of so many good elements of the Catholic Church since Vaitican II. Like Pope Benedict, Cardinal Muller makes clear it is the “spirit” of Vatican II interpretations that have done so. Pope Benedict in his last talk as pope to Rome‘s Clergy said that there were two Councils, the actual one (Council of the Fathers) and the made up one, the Council of the Media, but I would also add, more importantly, that it was the Council of heterodox and heretical Catholics after Vatican II. And this has continued under Pope Francis, especially with his method of synodality which has undermined the College of Bishops and also the College of Cardinals. Pope Leo, thanks be to God, knows that the false interpretations of the Council, not by the media, but by heterodox and heretical Catholics needs to the nipped in the bud as Barney Fife would say. This, thanks be to God, like Pope Benedict, Pope Leo is bringing the Church back to the Council, the actual Council, the words of the council, not interpretations or hearsay. And, as I have said repeatedly, an orthodox Catholic cannot reject Vatican II. Do so makes them heterodox and heretical. That I have made clear.
Vatican II is in good hands with Pope Leo XIV. But then, that has been the case with each Pope from Pope Saint John XXIII onward. Each Pope in question has rendered unto us the true Vatican II.
=======
Pope Leo XIV has made it clear that Pope Francis' (requiescat in pace) will serve as his immediate inspiration to interpret/implement Vatican II.
"In this regard, I would like us to renew together today our complete commitment to the path that the universal Church has now followed for decades in the wake of the Second Vatican Council.
"Pope Francis masterfully and concretely set it forth in the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium..."
But during the Extraordinary Consistory, Pope Leo XIV had made it clear that the Vatican II Era Popes maintained beautiful unity with each other...and had guided Vatican II's interpretation and implementation in holy, orthodox fashion.
That will prove true in regard to Pope Leo XIV. His Magisterium in unassailable.

— Pope Leo XIV, January 9, 2026 A.D.
"...my venerable predecessor, Pope Francis...had guided the People of God with immense pastoral charity."
I will look to the Council of Trent, a wildly successful Council, and not to the Golden Calf Council of failure!
Thanks be to God, MT, that what you don’t praise is that Pope Leo is reading Pope Francis through Benedict XVI, not independently of him, indicating that Pope Benedict and St. John Paul II are no longer canceled but are extremely important in the Lion’s papacy. Reading Francis through Benedict has already led Pope Leo to correct Pope Francis on numerous levels and more corrections are coming, especially recovering St. Paul VI’s understanding of the Synod of Bishops and the importance of the College of Cardinals. Pope Leo is certainly recovering the importance of Canon Law and unlike Pope Francis, has never called orthodox Catholics “doctors of the law” in a derisive manner.
To call the Council of Vatican II, the one from the Fathers, a Golden Calf, makes you TJM, makes you a right wing heterodox loon. Just sayin’!
And also a TJM suit.
Father McDonald, just pointing out the progressives slavish worship of a failed Council and how they highjacked it to ruin the Church. Vatican II was a flop and maybe the Church needs to move on and rediscover the glories of Trent! So that makes me heterodox? So what does that make you with your non-stop criticisms of the Novus Bogus?
Okay, Father, we disagree.
Anyway, as Pope Leo XIV has made clear, His Holiness will lean heavily upon Pope Francis' superb interpretation/implementation of Vatican II.
That alone ensures that Vatican II is in good hands with holy Pope Leo XIV.

MT, it saddens me to hear you call Pope Benedict and Cardinals Muller, Zen and Pell liars.
Father McDonald, I find it unfortunate that, in a myriad of ways, you and I are at monumental odds regarding Pope Francis (requiscant in pace).
But I am thankful that you and I hold Pope Leo XIV in high regard. We are both tremendous "fans," if you will, of His Holiness.
We know that God, via Pope Leo XIV, has blessed Holy Mother Church...each Catholic, and non-Catholic on earth...abundantly.
Father McDonald, in regard to Pope Francis: I will always appreciate and respect the following about you:
Whenever Pope Francis had experienced serious medical issues, you posted calls for prayers to implore God to heal Pope Francis.
Father McDonald, you have a holy heart.
Pax.

Father McDonald said..."MT, it saddens me to hear you call Pope Benedict and Cardinals Muller, Zen and Pell liars."
Father, had I done that, then I would understand your sadness in question.
Pax.

I don’t know if I could go so far as to call it a Golden Calf, but “the Council” does seem to eclipse all else to some churchmen. Just look at Cardinal Pierre’s most recent address to the USCCB.
Nick
If there is a “golden calf” in the documents of Vatican II is that the documents as written lend themselves to fake interpretations of the “media” but also for heretical or heterodox Catholics, bishops, clergy and religious, to offer heterodox and heretical interpretations or outright lies. Those of us who lived through the 60’s trust our bishops, clergy and religious, especially those in our Catholic schools, when they told us without evidence that every crazy novelty being foisted on us from idiotic experimentations with the Bugnini Mass, not even envisioned by Bugnini, secular clothes for nuns and priests, ecumenism gone wild with making all denomination and all religions equal and that we need to listen to secular agnostics and atheists to get along. What Pope Leo needs to do and soon, in my most humble opinion, is to write an enclylical on Vatican II and give the definitive interpretation of it and call out heretical and heterodox interpretations foisted on poor Catholic laity who bought so much of it lock, stock and barrel!
“Superb ” is not a word I would associate with a crabby, foul-mouthed Pope. Only one totally unhinged from reality would say that!
I am on board with the notion that Pope Francis (requiescat in pace) was a "superb" Pope.
That moniker works also for our "and he began to curse and to swear," "get the behind me, Satan," violent, sword-wielding, confronted-to-his-face, three--time Christ-denier who later had fled Rome in disguise as Nero persecuted the Church at Rome.
That is, Saint Peter.
Jesus Christ had called a man of tremendous flaws to serve as His first Pope.
Our Holy Triune God understands and employees failed, flawed, broken men to serve Him.
The God of Mercy worked with Saint Peter. He worked with Pope Francis. God works with, understands, and applies mercy to sinners...including flawed Popes.
Therefore, it is not surprising that yesterday, Pope Leo XIV had described Pope Francis his "venerable predecessor."
"The whole world gathered around his coffin on the day of his funeral, and sensed the loss of a father who had guided the people of God with immense pastoral charity."
Pope Francis had been gifted with "immense pastoral charity."
Pax.

Pope Leo is a genius, praise Francis, and certainly there are areas that deserve praise, and correct the chaos and polarization that he created! Perfect! And allow Cardinal Zen to speak the truth to him and the Cardinals. Is Zen a Francis hater?
