I prefer the ferula; but, I have to say he "looks" good in his role, the way JPII used to look. If this is a newly commissioned piece, was a gift etc., I hope he carries it well. This is otherwise not of concern to me.
It is a refinement of the other similar one but not as grotesque, but Benedict’s feral was beautiful. Fascinating that Francis used it frequently but also a variety of others.

Yes, it looks like a resurrexit cross, although I can't really tell on my mobile.
On the new staff the knees of the Christ figure and barely bent and the body is not quite as "droopy" if I can use that word.
