Back in the day when John Allen worked for the NcR, he was quite the progressive. But after Pope Benedict was elected, he shifted towards orthodoxy especially when Evangelical Catholicism was taking off.
I used to email him to offer comments and he always kindly responded. I loved his style of writing, though, no matter which way he leaned.

Did he die? Father if possible can you just be a littler “clearer” in your posts. For instance the last one with the pope’s schedule. I have no idea the significance but you apparently think it means something important. If you just said what you mean without the guessing it would be helpful.
Yes he died of cancer today.
May the angels lead him into Paradise.
