THE MASS OF THE AMERICAS: A POST VATICAN II CRITIQUE OF THE TRADITIONAL ORDER OF THE PONTIFICAL LATIN MASS
LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (LifeSiteNews) — Cardinal Raymond Burke in choir and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone as celebrant celebrated a solemn Pontifical Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which Cardinal Burke founded. The esteemed prelates, who are known for their defense of liturgical reverence and orthodoxy, celebrated the Mass of the Americas as a Traditional Latin Mass at the Shrine, located in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
The choir and music is from all the Choirs of angels and Archangels in heaven!
My comments:
This form of the Solemn Sung Traditional Order of the Pontifical Mass has all the bells and whistles from its long organic development through the issuing of the 1962 Roman Missal celebrated at Vatican II.
It has preserved, as has the Eastern Rite Divine Liturgies, the Mystery that must be the primary aspect of the Roman Mass, in many cases lost after Vatican II by banal and didactic celebration of the the Mass, even when sung.
I have consistently stated that so much of Sacrosanctum Concilium was directed at the Pontifical celebration of the Traditional Order of the Mass. This is not your typical parish Mass, low, high or solemn high.
I think many bishops just found the Pontifical Mass with Cappa Magna, liturgical gloves and slippers and dressing liturgically at the altar just a bit fussy and way, way, way too much, over the top if you will.
But with that said, this Mass transports the faithful to the highest realms of heaven, the highest choirs of angels, the Cheriphim and Seraphim.
Only the post-Vatican II Neanderthals would say that there isn’t full, conscious and active participation in this Mass. There is! Yes, the choir alone sings, but one internally joins and is raised up to the highest choirs of angels. Yes, only the clergy enter the sanctuary. There are no Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, no lay lectors and no conductor of the congregation waving her arms to force the faithful to sing.
But from the Ecclesiology of the Catholic Church, everyone and I mean everyone, todas, todas, todas are there from the Church Militant on earth, including the mortal sinner to the pure saint, from the Church Suffering in purgatory to the Church Triumphant in heaven.
At this Mass there are bishops, priests, deacons, subdeacons and all the laity in their diversity of saintliness and sinfulness.
So if ecclesiology is your preoccupation, rather than the Real Presence of the Risen and Glorified Christ, you have ecclesiology in full at this Mass and every Mass no matter the form.
Finally, let me once again quote by way of Edward Pentin’s reporting at the National Catholic Register what Cardinal Eijk said about Cardinal Burke last month at this very shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in LaCrosse, Wisconsin:
Cardinal Raymond Burke, Cardinal Eijk continued, “accepts the Second Vatican Council” and also celebrates the new Mass. “Neither ‘conservative’ nor ‘progressive’ are terms by which you can qualify Church leaders, bishops, priests,” Cardinal Eijk said. “These are psychological reaction mechanisms. Perhaps you can apply them to politicians but not to bishops and priests.”
“Shall I tell you, Cardinal Burke, what your real problem is?” he said. “You hardly dare to say it loud these days, but you’re Catholic, simply Catholic, but Catholic in the full sense of the word, not the Catholic faith mixed with water to make it more digestible. No, the full Catholic faith. The full truth.”

I watched this Mass and it truly was a "foretaste of Heaven." Thank God for priests like Cardinal Burke and Archbishop Cordileone!
