ON THE SOLEMNITY OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, THE ARCHBISHOP OF MALTA CELEBRATED MASS AD ORIENTEM
More evidence of the Leo effect!
Pontifical mass by the Archbishop Charles Scicluna of Malta at St Mary 's parish church, Gudja, Malta in the solemnity if the Assumption of Our Lady - 15.08.2025
A recent scandal has revea A recent video, recorded in the presence of the knights, shows Bishop Clá Dias and his priests speaking of their use of self-made exorcist rituals, as they believe those of the Catholic Church to be ineffective. To drive out the devil, the Heralds of the Gospel pronounce several formulas including, “May the curse of Monsignor João fall on your head”. The video also reveals the very secret nature of the cult they practice towards Plinio and his mother Lucilia. It shows Bishop Clá Dias giving credit to delirious theories and encouraging his priest to do as much. Who is the source of these pseudo-revelations? According to the now resigned bishop, it is the devil himself speaking to the knights, during the many exorcisms they practice without much discernment. One of the highlights of the video – a real piece of evidence for the file – is when Bishop João Clá tells the enthusiastic priests what the devil supposedly said about the Holy See and Pope Francis. Some choice morsels of these statements from Hell: “The Vatican? It’s mine, mine!”; or “[the Pope] does whatever I want, he’s stupid!”; and we mustn’t omit his reference to the deceased founder of the TFP: “Plans depend on God and Dr. Plinio”, who “is encouraging the death of the Pope”; and lastly, the identity of Francis’ successor: “Cardinal Rodé, the next pope”; he will “be good”. Indeed, the Slovenian cardinal did support the Heralds of the Gospel. It was he who in 2009, when he was prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, obtained Pope Benedict XVI’s pontifical approval for a clerical branch of the Heralds of the Gospel and for a branch of female religious. On August 15, 2009, he gave Bishop Clá Dias the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, an honorary distinction to reward him for his service of the Church and the papacy. Cardinal Franc Rodé is currently 82 years old. In November 2016, Cardinal Braz de Aviz, Cardinal Rodé’s successor, stated that seventy new communities have “problematic” aspects and that fifteen founders were currently undergoing canonical investigation. So the new evangelization desired by John Paul II in the wake of Vatican II bears “problematic” fruit. Duly noted!
WRONG: Go over to Father Z and he totally debunks that mistranslation of that particular phrase. I believe the genesis of that phrase was to permit the celebrant to go around the altar to incense it. Moreover, if that were so, then why were the rubrics not rewritten to delete the instructions telling the celebrant when to turn and face the congregation?
There was a trend as far back as the 1940’s to go to free standard orientem altars. St. Patrick’s in NY took out its magnificent attached altar and reredos and replaced it in the 1940’s with the one there now under the Baldachin.
The University of Notre Dame's high altar was built in the 19th century in Paris in the Atelier of Robert LeFroc - it was free standing such that the celebrant could walk around it and incense it.
Oh by the way, Inter oecumenici the first instruction on implementation of SC also made clear that freestanding altars was also to be applied to existing churches.
This instruction served as the foundational guideline for the immediate implementation of the liturgical reforms. It introduced several significant changes including to language, the orientation of the priest, simplification of the rites, the role of the laity, and liturgical music. One of the specific changes included guiding the introduction of vernacular languages in certain parts of the Mass, particularly the readings and prayers. It also controversially encouraged the priest to face the congregation. This new orientation would be further solidified in the General Instruction of the Roman Missal,[3] which also built on the Congregation for Rites’ 1967 Instruction, directing that altars be made the focal point of the liturgy, stationed between the priest celebrating the liturgy of the Eucharist, and the laity, so that what takes place on the altar may be clearly seen by all.
Thanks for pointing out how wrong-headed Inter Oecumenicic was and yes almost overnight faux altars were placed in front of magnificent high altars creating two altars back to back. The old higher altar, even with a free standing altar in front of it, still looked closer to the laity by way of illusion as it was so high, whereas the new faux altar was not able to be seen as it was too low. When the congregation was standing or kneeling there appeared to be no altar and all one saw and sees is the head of the priest if that, but with the higher altar, it appeared closer (an illusion) as it was higher, seen in its entirety and when the priest was in front of it the entire person of the priest was seen, thus bringing the Mass closer to standing and kneeling laity. IO was a disaster as was Consilium. Sacrosanctum Concilium, if actually followed, would not have caused the disruption of liturgical peace and calm and now for almost 60 years!

You must have meant this comment for the post on the Heralds not this one.
Many bishops are forbidding ad orientem for the modern Mass, like Charlotte, Detroit and a few others…
A bishop who forbids ad orientem should be cashiered because it is obvious they cannot read nor understand the rubrics contained in the Novus Ordo.
The rubrics say the altar should be freestanding to allow a celebration facing the people which is desirable whenever possible!

It’s the traditionalist reinterpretation of SC’s intentions that is incredible!
