ROME, January 17, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) — Benedict XVI said he could not remain silent in his new book because he sees the voices of those who wish to abolish priestly celibacy as a “great danger” for the Church, Cardinal Gerhard Müller has said.
In a recent interview with Corriere della Sera, the former prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) added that while “some are putting pressure on Francis,” the “contribution” of Benedict’s new book with Cardinal Sarah is “a help to the Pope.”
The new volume, titled From the Depths of Our Hearts, “has a theological and ecclesiastical value greater than that of many other bishops and theologians,” Cardinal Müller said.

Parents correct their children because they love them. But at a certain age, invariably, there are children who will twist correction and discipline as something else and while spew those ridiculous words at their parents: "Why do you hate me?"

The same thing is happening in our Church. Invariably, there will be those who take offense at the retired pope's input (assistance? correction? call it what you will) of the newer pope.

It will be interesting to see what the National Catholic Reporter and/or U.S. Catholic do with this. I am willing to be that their coverage will be extremely negative.

I do not read Italian, so I have to ask: In this era of “fake news,” is the book aptly described as “[Pope Benedict’s] . . . new book” or “the new book by Benedict XVI and Cardinal Sarah” or not? With all the clarifications as well as obfuscations, I am getting confused. I thought it had been clarified that the book was not in fact co-authored by Pope Benedict and Cardinal Sarah, although Pope Benedict supplied “notes” or something, but perhaps I missed yet another “development” along the way somewhere.
