I had read that earlier today via Rorate Caeli's X account. Several commenters had expressed confusion in regard to New Catholic's (Rorate Caeli) point.
I believe that New Catholic has continued Trad Inc.'s "Zip It" scheme in regard to Pope Leo XIV. That is, trads believe that His Holiness is another Pope Francis (requiescat in pace), Pope Benedict XVI (requiescat in pace), Vatican II Modernist.
But for now, trads pretend that they are rational...play nice with Pope Leo XIV...he promotes, at least to some extent, the TLM...then they will not hesitate to show their true colors as they will then unload on Pope Leo XIV.
Michael Matt, as well as additional radtrads, have given up on "Zip It." But I believe that New Catholic has adhered to said scheme.
Therefore, I pretty sure that New Catholic's confusing post in question is favorable to Pope Leo XIV...and a typical Rorate Caeli dig at Pope Francis.
It has to be an attempt to pit Pope Leo XIV against Pope Francis. Knowing Rorate Caeli, I am pretty sure about that.
The article seems to be linking together three completely unrelated things, and I'm not convinced by any of it.
I'd have thought that the Spanish church would welcome a visit from the pope at this time (though I can see why the socialist Spanish government wouldn't be keen to foot the bill). There's no way that the itinerary would include Franco's Valley of the Fallen, so all that seems like a red herring. The simplest solution would be for Pope Leo to have a one-day trip to Barcelona to mark the Gaudi anniversary, and then go straight back to Rome.
I know virtually nothing about Argentinean church politics, but when a dismissed bishop wants to visit the pope, it's probably because he wants to be rehabilitated in some way. It's only natural that Pope Leo would take a keen interest in his former dicastery, and he's probably going out of his way to avoid treading on his successor's toes too much.
