What a shame that the designers of the Catholic Crystal Cathedral altar platform did not follow the rubrics for the pre-Vatican sanctuary.
The pre-Vatican II sanctuary was/is spacious with large spaces below the altar for adequate room for weddings and ordinations. Look at how the deacon candidates legs hang off the platform! There’s no excuse for this but here you have it:

Just what were the designers of the Christ Cathedral thinking? They weren’t thinking and should return their fees!

Am I the only one that finds this scandalous? Why in the Name of God and all that is Holy, didn't they design the platform to be as big as it is for the concert and why didn't they just leave it up for the ordination???????

UPDATE: Then I found this! The altar platform, because it is so tiny, couldn't accommodate a concert with orchestra, so what did they do for the concert? They expanded the platform! Why didn't they do it for the ordination??????

Interesting that Benedict XVI regards Beethoven's crowning masterpiece to be the Mass in D (Missa Solemnis) rather than the ninth symphony with its choral finale celebrating Schiller's enlightenment and humanist sentiments.
I love both works but if I had to choose between the two I would, like the pope emeritus, plump for the Mass. Although originally designed for liturgical use, it makes better sense as a concert piece, given the overall tonal structure.
Could you tell us where the header photo was taken? That looks like Archbishop Cordileone at the far right.
St. Francis de Sales Oratory in St. Louis (the second picture) is a stunning building in every way — a monument to the faith of the immigrants who sacrificed to pay for it and, now, a testament to the appeal of the traditional Catholic Faith as one of the largest traditional parishes in the country.
Scandalous? Really?
I find the un-matched lace on the albs of those being ordained scandalous!
And the un-ironed prie-dieu covers completely scandalous!
These people are imperiling the salvation of others and they don't seem to give a tinker's damn.
Pass the smelling salts, Myrtle!
Why didn't they do it for the ordination?
Because concerts are important, silly.
That crystal building is a great auditorium, theater or concert hall. As a church it makes no sense. Dangling feet aren’t it’s only problem.

John, Your supercilious attitude and condescending comments have utterly convinced me that, at least in your own mind, you are very smart and very important.
You light up my life!
