Prefect for Communication comments on theft of statues from Rome church
At the conclusion of a press briefing in the Vatican on Monday, the Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication, Dr. Paolo Ruffini, says the theft of indigenous statues is a contradiction to the spirit of dialogue.
By Vatican News
Early on Monday morning, unidentified individuals entered the Church of St. Mary in Traspontina, near the Vatican.
They removed a group of statuettes from a side chapel, and threw them in the Tiber River nearby, posting a video of the gesture on social media.
The statuettes, which depict pregnant indigenous women, were used in an October 4th ceremony in the Vatican at the beginning of the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon Region.
‘Theft that speaks for itself’
Dr. Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Vatican Dicastery for Communication, responded to a journalist’s question at the Monday press briefing for the Synod, in the Holy See Press Office.
“We have already repeated several times here that those statues represented life, fertility, mother earth. It was a gesture – I believe – that contradicts the spirit of dialogue that should always inspire us. I don’t know what else to say except that it was a theft, and perhaps that speaks for itself.”

LOL - Lenin was right. Capitalists (in this case, Churchmen) will give us the rope to hang them with.
Father McDonald, this is not my comment, but I thought you would enjoy reading it:
"The Vatican Director of Communications Paolo Buffone said it was a case of theft.
Seems that Il Direttore doesn’t believe in the God of Surprises."
Well.....the right things were taken away
Bee here:
I know what to say..."I am the Lord Thy God. Thou shall not have strange gods before Me."
I am glad those two men took action. I am glad they acted on the outrage we all feel with these idols in our churches, given pride of place. (Well, maybe not all. I would guess at least a few of the readers here don't see a thing wrong with those statues being in a church on an altar.)
Shame on these clerics who do and endorse such things.
God bless.

Those pagan idols should never have been allowed inside of a Catholic Church. Pagan rituals should never have been allowed to be performed on Church grounds. God bless those two men, they had the fortitude to do what certain gutless clergy wouldn't do. All in Rome need to read and meditate on the golden calf incident in the OT.
This contradicts the spirit of dialogue that should inspire us? Give me a break! These two men gave Rome precisely the "dialogue" that they needed to hear. Maybe the guilty persons would have preferred for the ground to open up and swallow them whole?
Hey PF,
There are many saints who became saints because they destroyed Pagan idols and symbols. St. Boniface anyone?
I have had enough of this New Age Movement Church the left is trying to implement
October 21, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Bishop José Luis Azcona, emeritus of Marajó in the Amazon Delta in Brazil, has reacted to the ongoing controversy about the carved nude figures of pregnant indigenous women that are appearing repeatedly at the Amazon Synod and at events organized by the “Amazonia Common House” (“Casa comúm”) by the progressive pan-Amazonian network REPAM. He called the syncretist liturgies a “point of scandal for the whole Church.”

La Anunciación - Navidad en la Amazonía
The statue appears at the 23-second mark.
The December 15, 2018 A.D. video offer's the following:
“Salve llena de gracia, el Señor es contigo”
Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you
“Soy la raíz de mis hijos, soy el canto de mis abuelas, el canto de la Nunkuli”
I am the root of my children, I am the song of my grandmothers, the song of (the) Nunkuli
Note: “song” can also be translated as “chant”
“No temas María, porque has hallado gracia delante de Dios”
(Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found grace before God)
“y concebirás en tu seno y darás a luz un hijo a quien pondrás de nombre Jesús (Lucas 1, 26, 11)”
(And you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, to whom you will give the name Jesus (Lk 1, 26, 11) )
“Navidad en la Amazonia” (Christmas in the Amazon.)

Where Peter Is blog noted in regard to the above:
The 2018 A.D. "video from REPAM shows, once more, that they are referring to the Virgin Mary."
"This is consistent with the words of the native woman who presided over the ritual and with the clarification offered by one of the priests who organized it.
"As I said, the closer we get to the actual sources of the ceremony, the stronger the evidence is that this is Our Lady."

"Spirit of Dialogue"?
Thanks be to God for those Romans with the guts to contradict such a spirit. Jesus did not die on the cross for us to "dialogue" with evil spirits and false gods. Enough of this crap already!

Mark, the Vatican News director last week, not last year, emphatically stated the statue is NOT the BVM, but an image symbolizing Mother Earth. Pagans use this image in their worship.
Father McDonald said..."Mark, the Vatican News director last week, not last year, emphatically stated the statue is NOT the BVM, but an image symbolizing Mother Earth. Pagans use this image in their worship."
Father McDonald, from what I've read about last week's comments from the news director, he had offered his opinion, rather than an official declaration from Rome.
His opinion has been contradicted from one of the priests who had organized the Vatican Gardens event.
The Vatican "officials" whose comments I have encountered have denied that the icon in question is pagan.
The lady who presented the Vatican Gardens ceremony identified the icon as that of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The Youtube video from December 2018 A.D., that featured REPAM and the icon in question, had made it clear that the icon depicted the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Father, this morning, you offered the following headline:
"VATICAN EDITORIAL IMPLIES PAPAL USE OF PAGAN IMAGE AN ATTEMPT TO CHRISTIANIZE IT:"
Should we wish to accept that account, than it is impossible to claim that His Holiness Pope Francis had venerated an idol.
Again, beyond the above headline:
-- One of the priests who organized the Vatican Gardens ceremony identified the icon as that of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
-- The icon was presented in the Vatican Gardens as Our Lady.
-- The REPAM video from December 2018 A.D., identified the icon as that of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Regardless as to where one turns in regard to the Vatican Gardens event, the facts demonstrate that Pope Francis did not venerate an idol.
Finally, as the Where Peter is blogger noted:
"This video from REPAM shows, once more, that they are referring to the Virgin Mary.
"This is consistent with the words of the native woman who presided over the ritual and with the clarification offered by one of the priests who organized it.
"As I said, the closer we get to the actual sources of the ceremony, the stronger the evidence is that this is Our Lady."

Mark Thomas said... "The Youtube video from December 2018 A.D., that featured REPAM and the icon in question, had made it clear that the icon depicted the Blessed Virgin Mary."
The origin of the image was explained, in an interview given to Crux magazine by Fernando Lopez, SJ, who is part of the "Itinerant Group" who initially acquired the idol.
From the article:
"According to Father Fernando Lopez, a Jesuit, and a member of the 'Itinerant
Group,' composed of men and women, religious and lay, who travel around
the Amazon preaching the Gospel in extremely remote areas, the image of the
pregnant woman 'represents life.'"
"Lopez said the wood carving is an image the Itinerant Group has been using
for years, and it was bought at an artisan’s market in Manaus, a city in
Brazil’s Amazon."
The people who acquired the image state that it does not represent the Blessed Virgin; it represents "life."
Nowhere does the video "make clear" or even suggest that the idol in question is considered the Blessed Virgin by anyone.
This is the information conveniently omitted by the above post:
The video is produced by Repam, the same organization that accepts millions of dollars from proabortion groups (all while touting the "church of the poor," mind you), and contains a quick flash of that idol during a "Christmas" song, along with several other photos of the region.
Here is the "Christmas song" from the video.
Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you.
I am the root of my children, I am the song of my grandmothers, the song of (the) Nunkuli.
Daughter of the River, sister of the wind.
Seed, sustenance.
I am the sacred womb that sows love.
Song of life, I am territory, song of struggle.
Do not be afraid Mary, for you have found grace before God.
And you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a son, to whom you will give the name Jesus.
Definition of Nunkuli: nunkuli ~ s.(mit) ~ one of the main deities of the Lowland Kichwas.
So, now we're to believe that the Blessed Virgin is "the song" of a demon?
Psalm 95:5.
May God bless those young men who pitched the Pachamama idols into the river. The did the work of God.
The liberals are calling this defense of the Faith a sin. Now it's okay to judge and call out sin. lol
And I guess no 'primacy of conscience' loophole.

Before you know it, they'll be calling for the death penalty once again.
DJR,
They will be calling for the death penalty if you are a faithful, traditional Catholic.
