HOW TO AVOID MASK SANCTIMONY AND SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS

Evidence-Based Guidelines to Celebrate Mass Safely Are Working

Catholic churches across the country have been open for up to four months since shelter-in-place orders were lifted. With approximately 17,000 parishes in America typically holding three or more weekend masses - and a greater number of daily masses - for the last 14 or more weeks - over one million public masses have been celebrated following guidelines to prevent the spread of the virus: in sum, follow the three W’s - watch your distance, wear your mask, and wash your hands.

My non sanctimous comments:

I encourage my parishioners to wear a mask at Mass to protect themselves from the coronavirus.

The reason I ask them to do so is to help them not to catch the virus in a public setting like a church building. Of course, the mask they wear should protect them and others. If  we are told that the mask is to help you not spread your virus out of love and concern for others in an altruistic way, that is great and certainly of a high morality. However, if the mask you are wearing doesn't protect you, more than likely, common sense tell you, the mask won't help others you are so desperation trying to protect.

This is a very good and balanced article I post above. Read it.

Not much has been evidence based in all this Covid-19 circus, like wearing cloth masks.
But where is the most important health measure in your guidelines: praying for God's help to keep us safe?

Agree. If we all give a little, we can go about our lives in as normal a way as possible. Those that are overly righteous and those that will not comply ("You're taking away my rights") aren't helping matters at all. Extraordinary times, folks, give a little and we'll hopefully get through this together.

If the 3Ws are working (and I believe they are), it shows how the rest of us can stay safe. Your city or town should also require the 3Ws.
