Pope accepts resignation of McCarrick from the College of Cardinals
- Christopher White and Inés San MartínJul 28, 2018
“Yesterday evening the Holy Father received the letter in which Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, Archbishop Emeritus of Washington (U.S.A.), presented his resignation as a member of the College of Cardinals,” said a statement released on Saturday by the Vatican’s press office.
The statement continued to say that Francis accepted McCarrick’s resignation from the cardinalate and “has ordered his suspension from the exercise of any public ministry, together with the obligation to remain in a house yet to be indicated to him, for a life of prayer and penance until the accusations made against him are examined in a regular canonical trial.”

Don't hold your breath.
Good, hopefully more resignations to follow
Well, too little too late as per usual with the Episcopacy. It’s only being done now after years and years of abuse and cover-up, and only because of media exposure. What about the Bishops who knew about McCarrick’s crimes, two of whom paid huge settlements to victims AFTER the USCCB policy for Zero Tolerance of 2002? And who in the Vatican knew and did nothing but encourage cover-up? The fox has been in charge of the henhouse for way too long.
Your average pew-sitters are finally getting clued-in and fed up—when that happens, financial underpinnings begin to fail. Transparency is coming very late, but is absolutely critical for Holy Mother Church.
In addition to the perverts I wish they would get rid of all the heretics as well.
TJM,
Agreed. You cannot heal the body until the cancer has been removed.
Too little, needs to be laicised immediately.
In the meantime, the clergy is packed with homosexuals, according to this or that person.
I don't know as to whether said folks are correct. But I'm certain of the following: During the past 2,000 years, sinners have abounded within Holy Mother Church.
Good luck to those who intend to rid the Church of homosexuals, sexual predators, sinful heterosexuals, modernists...etc.
Pax.

Speaking of cancer, we have our own here in South Georgia. A very good and solid priest is being punished for preaching the Catholic Church's truths on marriage. His pastor has forbidden him to preach at any English-speaking Masses. What is this going to do for faith and morale in this parish?
What priest and what did he preach?

If this is the priest I'm thinking about, I'm done with whatever monster the Church has become.
Parish in V-town?

MT, thanks for the mercifully brief non sequitur! McCarrick was leftwing, leftwing, leftwing!!!
Dan:
V is the letter.
That should not drive you away from the Church, because that's just what the Devil wants. Unfortunately, we are living in a time when pastors. don't want conflict and human approval trumps truth. The 70's generation isn't going to last forever and the Church will recover from their neglect.
The parish in question hasn't had a good priest in decades and a small, very unworthy people, lay and at the diaconate level continue to do their level best to sabotage orthodoxy and maintain mediocrity. They won't last forever either.
Let's see, booming more traditionally minded orders and cloisters, etc face destruction and suppression. Good priest after priest are silenced, punished, just for speaking like a Catholic. It case people haven't noticed - what we have here is the Catholic hierarchy SUPPRESSING Catholicism.
Can one truly say one is SURE that Christ would want one to submit to such? Or would staying be the "being led astray" that we have been warned about.
Francis MUST be fought!
Where do you propose to go Dan? No other Church was started by Christ. No other Church has His authority or Apostolic Orders. No other Church has valid sacraments. Even the most unworthy and evil priest still validly confects the Eucharist at Mass and validly absolves our sins.
Some of our greatest saints were formed by living in corrupt conditions and shining forth with a Holy life that rebuked their peers. and superiors.
Don't worry, they're getting rid of all those pesky Catholic ideas like "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus."
Heck, you don't even have to be a Catholic to be invited to share communion in Germany. The holy father must agree since he has not said a word. Although I suspect that privately the Pope is encouraging the bishops to "make a mess."
