WHAT’S UP WITH THIS DISCONTINUITY?

Most traditional Italian churches as throughout Europe and the USA, placed new “Vatican II” altars and ambos in classically designed churches, which do not match or compliment in any way what was a liturgical unity prior to Vatican II.

Most Italian and European churches did not go the route of gutting their churches of classic liturgical furnishings, they simply added ungodly and modern liturgical furnishings in front of classic ones. It is sad, to say the least.

This is today’s January 6th Epiphany Mass at the Cathedral of Cortona, Italy where Bishop Guido Marini is the celebrant. I am still a bit puzzled why he hasn’t placed a central crucifix on the modern altar. He does have, though, the episcopal candle on the true altar behind the faux one. But please note how the continuity of architecture and liturgical furnishings is completely disrupted by the new altar, cathedra and ambo:

There’s no link just photo of Bishop Marino celebrating the Epiphany Mass and my brief commentary.

This altar looks like a portable table set up for an event after Mass. the previous post wherein you remarked that they should have reclaimed the altar rail gate for the VII altar is similar and also looked like someone was planning to play a few hands of bridge after dismissal. I am revealing nothing to write that I am not a big fan of Vatican II but am not quite in the ‘it is a missive from Satan’, either. At least not yet.
