OH JOY! POPE FRANCIS APPOINTS NEW CARDINALS INCLUDING THE FORMER ARCHBISHOP OF ATLANTA NOW THE CARDINAL ARCHBISHOP OF WASHINGTON, DC

Pope announces a consistory for the creation of 13 new cardinals

On 28 November, New cardinals will be added to the College of Cardinals: 9 are under 80 years of age, among them is the Guardian of Sacro Convento in Assisi, Father Mauro Gambetti.

By Vatican News

The Church will have thirteen new Cardinals. Nine of them are younger than 80 and therefore have the right to participate in a future conclave. Four others are older than 80 years of age. Pope Francis’s announcement came as a surprise, after the recitation of the Angelus of Sunday, 25 October. He communicated the news regarding the creation of the new cardinals to the faithful present in St Peter’s Square as well as to those connected throughout the world.

Two of the new Cardinals work in the Roman Curia: the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops, Maltese Mario Grech and the Italian Marcello Semeraro, former Bishop of Albano and the new Prefect for the Congregation of the Causes of Saints.

Six other pastors in the Church throughout the world are joining them: the Archbishop of Kilgali, Rwanda, Antoine Kambanda; the Archbishop of Washington, United States, Wilton Gregory; Archbishop of Capiz, in the Philippines, Jose Fuerte Advincula; Archbishop  of Santiago, Chile, Celestino Aós Braco; the Apostolic Vicar of Brunei, Cornelius Sim; the Archbishop of Siena, Italia, Augusto Paolo Lojudice.

In addition, the Pope has also appointed the current Guardian of the Franciscan Sacro Convento in Assisi, Mauro Gambetti.

To these Cardinals who are younger than 80 years of age, Pope Francis has also added four other Cardinals who are older than 80. They are: Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel, Archbishop Emeritus of San Cristóbal de Las Casas (Mexico); former Apostolic Nuncio Silvano Tomasi, former permanent observer at the United Nations in Geneva who then worked in the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development; Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa, preacher of the Papal Household; and the pastor of the Shrine of Divine Love, Father Enrico Feroci.

Cardinals wear the color red which indicates their willingness to sacrifice themselves usque ad sanguinis effusionem, that is, to the point of sheding their own blood, in the service of the Successor of Peter, and even though they reside in the remostest regions of the world, they become the titular of a parish in the Eternal City so that they are incardinated in the Church of which the Pope is Bishop.

Good luck with that.

Did you mean, Oh "joy"?

This was widely expected---otherwise, why would you transfer a 72 year-old to head another diocese (or in this case, archdiocese)?

Well, at least he’s clarified his stance on same sex unions.

Given the quality of what the pope has been appointing to the college of Carindals, it is becoming increasingly apparent that God is going to have to let a monumental cataclysm destroy large portions of the population (including certain cardinals) to get a CATHOLIC pope elected the next time.

It must be remembered that is was Popes John Paul II and Benedict who gave men such as Bergolio and Gregory their starts as bishops and kept promoting them. Both of these popes knew that Gregory was a "son of Bernardin." The lavender crowd under them at the Vatican knew what they were doing moving them higher and higher in the Church. Today's appointment is no surprise. It is just a reminder of who is in charge.

If Biden were a Republican, here are things the Media would be asking old Joe:

1) Given your obvious mental deterioration and your difficulty working a full schedule on the campaign trail, why should the American people believe you are physically and mentally capable of handling a job as demanding as the presidency?

2) You have been in government since 1972, so aren’t you part of the problem? Why should anyone believe you’ll make things better?

3) While you were Vice President, America had the weakest economic recovery since the Great Depression. Shouldn’t Americans expect the same poor performance this time if you win?

4) Was your son Hunter qualified for his Burisma board member position? What exactly did he bring to that position other than the possibility you would use your position as Vice-President to help him?

5) Very clearly, your son Hunter has made millions by promising people access and help from you, but you say you have not given it. Given the revelations of Laptopgate, why should anyone believe you?

6) Are you willing to condemn #Blacklivesmatter for all the rioting, looting, lawbreaking, and bad behavior associated with the group?

7) You have denied that you want to do away with fracking and fossil fuel many times, but there is video of you saying it. Were you lying then or are you lying now?

8) Under the Title IX rules that were put in place during the Obama administration, lawsuits have proven that college men were being convicted of sexual assaults they didn’t commit on college campuses. The Trump administration changed these rules, but you say you want to go back to them. Why do you believe it’s okay for college men to be falsely labeled as rapists by kangaroo courts that make it impossible for them to defend themselves?

9) A family of four earning $73,000 saves $2,000 per year because of the Trump tax cuts and their taxes will go up if you, as promised, repeal the Trump tax cuts. So, aren’t you lying when you say no one making less than $400,000 will have their taxes raised if you become President?

10) You want to give citizenship to 11 million illegal aliens. Why do they deserve Medicare and Social Security benefits? Also, that will encourage millions of other illegal aliens to come here. Will you give them citizenship, too?

11) Why do you now believe it’s moral to use the tax dollars of people that are adamantly against killing children to fund abortions?

12) You are well known for your unwanted sniffing and kissing of women. You have also been credibly accused of sexually assaulting a former aide. Are you a sexual predator, Joe? Can women be safe around you?

13) Millions of Americans lost their health care plans and prices have gone up dramatically because of the Affordable Care Act. Would you be willing to apologize to the American people for all the lies used to sell that legislation and for the failure of Obamacare?

If we had an honest media, here are some questions Joe Biden would be asked to answer:

1) Given your obvious mental deterioration and your difficulty working a full schedule on the campaign trail, why should the American people believe you are physically and mentally capable of handling a job as demanding as the presidency?

2) You have been in government since 1972, so aren’t you part of the problem? Why should anyone believe you’ll make things better?

5) Are you willing to condemn #Blacklivesmatter for all the rioting, looting, lawbreaking, and bad behavior associated with the group?

6) The no-bail policies you support have dramatically exacerbated the violence and rioting of your supporters in many places. Are you willing to abandon those policies and call for all of your supporters who break the law to be charged with a crime and held on bail?

7) You have denied that you want to do away with fracking and fossil fuel many times, but there is video of you saying it. Were you lying then or are you lying now?

8) Under the Title IX rules that were put in place during the Obama administration, lawsuits have proven that college men were being convicted of sexual assaults they didn’t commit on college campuses. Ok, previous Anonymous. If we had an honest media, maybe that would ask Trump about his promise to eliminate the national debt in 8 years? Maybe they might ask why Trump expects the US House to flip to the Republicans on November 3 given that control of the US House has not changed in a presidential year since 1952. (I suspect most viewers of this blog were not around back then). Maybe they might ask if he is embarassed about the amount of debt he has run up since 2017, and what is his plan for reducing it. Golly, I thought the Democrats were big spenders---I guess they are not alone!

Congratulations to Cardinal Elect Gregory - a very significant and welcomed appointment to the American Church.

Anonymous K,

The media loves big debt, obviously, because Obama doubled the national debt in 8 years, and they were fine with that! I see I struck a nerve because you could not refute any of the 12.

By the way, Here is what Father Z has to say about people like you:

"I’ll tell you what I don’t like: Catholics who say they are Catholic and then promote or excuse abortion, or relegate abortion to one among a list of other things. Personally, I cannot vote for some who promotes the intrinsic grave evil of abortion. I don’t think that any Catholic having a well-formed conscience can vote for a candidate who promotes abortion. It is a lie that other issues are as important as abortion. Abortion is the pre-eminent life issue."

You may want to do a "well formed consience" check on yourself

Does anyone else notice that ToastJM is having a debate with himself, kinda like Clint Eastwood's conversation with an empty chair at the 2012 Republican National Convention...?

Does anyone notice Anonymous K is having a debate with himself and never addresses the substance of comments which are critical of his leftwing world view? A clerical Mark Thomas

I wish someone in the know would describe these new cardinals relative to the pontiffs recent “slap in the face.”

A vote for Trump is a vote for peace in the Middle East. A stand for human rights in China, Tibet, Iran, etc. A stand against diversity, political congruence, anti-nativism, social justice adventurism, including: elective wars and coups. A stand for emigration reform to mitigate collateral damage at both ends of the bridge and throughout. Neutralization of Obamacare, urban sprawl, democratic gerrymandering, and pursuit of market reform to control progressive prices and availability of medical care, and development of green technology to mitigate the Green blight and ensure the energy necessary for a first-world experience is available, when and where it is needed while conserving ecology and civilization. A vote for Trump is a vote for the American dream: Pro-Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

A vote for Trump is a vote for emigration reform? (I think you meant "immigration".) Really? America hasn't passed major immigration reform in 34 years. As I recall, he failed to get it passed in his first 2 years, when Republicans controlled both the US House and Senate. Maybe you care to explain how he will get immigration reforms thru a House that is sure to be run by Nancy Pelosi the next 2 years? Neutralization of urban sprawl? Good luck. Come up to Atlanta and see how urban sprawl spreads by the day, dozens of miles from downtown. Neutralization of Obamacare? Only if the Supreme Court strikes it down (while we still wait for his "replacement plan" and wonder again how that will get thru Nancy Pelosi's House?). Democratic gerrymandering? Oh, as if the Republicans don't practice it too? Guess you have not been to Wisconsin. Well, maybe he wins despite these drawbacks given the alternative...but folks like me would certainly look at a viable alternative to these two...if there were one!

Anonymous K,

You are always good for a laugh. When Obama had supermajorities in Congress, he did nothing about immigration reform. FYI, my Hispanic friends are voting for President Trump because he is protecting their jobs, safety, and families from the likes of MS 13

With regard to today’s political environment; are Pope Francis’s “new cardinals” an example of papal court stacking? If they were categorized as TLM friendly versus Vatican 2 fanatics, what would the score be? Was the appointment of the new cardinals as celebratory to conservative Catholics as the appointment of ACB was to conserve Americans?

Does anyone have any info on the willingness of these new cardinals to defend the deposit of faith? Will they support orthodox belief or promote heretical ideas secretly or openly? As I have said before, I don't mind more cardinals from the peripheral geographical areas, but I would hope they would be solid orthodox believers and defenders of the faith, particularly on the moral and sexual issues that are so controversial in modern society.
