JUST AS IN 1954 SO TOO IN 2019 ARCHBISHOP FULTON SHEEN MAKES GREAT SENSE! THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES!

In a decent world, Archbishop Sheen would have been the Cardinal Archbishop of New York or some other major see. Even then, I am sure he was the object of rank jealousy

I agree that Venerable Archbishop Sheen would have made a great cardinal archbishop (or maybe even pope). However, perhaps Our Lord chose a "lowly" archbishop with plenty of time and energy to get the Catholic evangelization message across via print, radio, and television. According to my mother, my Protestant grandmother loved him despite her anti-Catholic views. She never missed his TV show, always forsaking Uncle Miltie.

I've read that there was bad blood between Venerable Archbishop Sheen and Francis
Cardinal Spellman. Jealousy and fallen human nature might have been the root cause of Venerable Archbishop Sheen's lack of "promotion".

Archbishop Sheen had long taken a verbal beating from "traditional" Catholics in regard to the Archbishop's supposed "modernism."

He had been accused of having watered-down, sold out and abandonded the Faith so as to become a TV star who preached a compromised, ecumenical message.

Here is one of several attacks that "traditionalist" Father Leonard Feeney had launched against Bishop Sheen:

March 1953 A.D. Scroll down a bit to read "THE ORACLE AT ADELPHI."

Imagine having been right-wing to the point that certain "traditional" Catholics of the 1950s had viewed Archbishop Sheen as an apostate.

This is the Catholic right-wing of 1950s at work.

Mind-boggling!

Feeney was nuts.

Gene,

MT is popping off again on a time and place he knows nothing about. Feeney was excommunicated for his positions.

Gene, have you notice how MT pops up with his silliness but has refused to address a legitimate question I keep asking him as to what PF has done to the clerics involved in a cocaine fueled gay sex orgy at the Vatican. Crickets

Father Leonard Feeney was held in high esteem within the Church. For example, he was recognized as a tremendous theologian.

He was persecuted by high-ranking Churchmen...but he also contributed to his downfall.

Father Feeney's persecution began when he was unable to accept Pope Venerable Pius XII's acceptance of the Ecumenical Movement.

During the late 1940s and early 1950s, such Churchmen as Cardinal Cushing had promoted vigorously Pope Venerable Pius XII's promotion of the Ecumenical Movement.

Father Feeney refused to accept the plunge into ecumenism and interfaith "dialogue" that exploded within the Church during the 1940s and 1950s.

He was persecuted...but he had become too belligerent for his own good.

He went off the deep end when he initiated his attacks against "apostate" Archbishop Sheen.

Archbishop Sheen was too "ecumenical"...preached a watered-down faith, according to Father Feeney and many "traditional," right-wing Catholics of that time.

Deo gratias, in 1972 A.D., Father Feeney returned to full-communion with the True Church.

Archbishop Humberto Cardinal Medeiros of Boston, a merciful man, with Pope Saint Paul VI's blessing, worked diligently with Father Feeney to return fully to the Church.

Cardinal Ottaviani played a major role in the persecution of Father Feeney. The Cardinal obstructed many efforts to restore Father Feeney to the Church.

Following Pope Saint Paul VI's having replaced Cardinal Ottaviani at the CDF, the merciful effort to restore Father Feeney to full-communion was initiated with the Pope's blessing.

Pax.

In regard to Father Leonard Feeney's difficult situation within the Church...

Cardinal Ottaviani played the same role in that regard that Cardinal Müller played in regard to the SSPX's situation within the Church.

Pope Saint Paul VI desired to rehabilitate Father Leonard Feeney..but Cardinal Ottaviani obstructed that process.

Cardinal Müller obstructed Pope Francis' effort to rehabilitate the SSPX.

With Cardinal Müller's elimination at the CDF, Rome's effort to restore the SSPX to full-communion with the True Church should proceed more smoothly.

MT,

When are you EVER going to answer my question about PF and his non-response to the cocaine fueled gay sex orgies at the Vatican?

Mark Thomas, I personally am less hopeful of SSPX restoration due to Francis signing the "Human Fraternity" document AND his continued refusal to clarify much of anything, including the Dubia.

TJM, MT will not budge. He is the number one apologist for all that is wrong in the Church, starting with Ultra-Montanism.

TJM said...

Gene,

It is odd that MT is an ultra-montanist because in all else he is a left-winger, left-winger, left-winger!!!

Gene said...

TJM, He may be an Ultra-Montanist only in regard to Francis. If we had a real Pope, he may not like it so much.

Gene,

Good point.
