In my neck of the woods, cloud eclipses of the sun are frequent and bring almost total darkness to our surroundings. Does anyone make a big deal out of these? But if the moon hides the sun, you’s think it’s the end of the world! I just don’t get it.

We had 97.5% coverage locally, still impossible to view with naked eye, same as looking at the edge of a welding arc.
Could have driven 1.5hrs one-way and been in totallity for one whole minute...but did not want to deal with 3hrs of driving, horrid traffic as all the folk west moved this way for their minute in the non-sun, and all for only a minute or so.
Like I say, you've not seen one total eclipse, you've not seen them all.
