I DON’T THINK HE HAS THE PERSONALITY OR ENERGY TO BE THE NEW POPE, BUT HE MIGHT BE A GOOD INTERIM PAPABILITY

Crux has an article on Cardinal Parolin and his possible election as the next pope. In some of my posts, I have written that I felt he was positioning himself as the next pope.

He is what I would call a truly Vatican II bishop in the shadow of Saint Pope Paul VI. Say what you will about the experimentation Paul VI allowed, he held the line on doctrinal change. He would not tolerate it and Humanae Vitae is a prime example.

Without Humane Vitae, Pope Francis long ago in his papacy would have ordered LBGTQ ordinations and marriages and the overturning of the Church’s anthropology of sexuality, gender and natural law.

Parolin, like Paul VI, understands well that discipline can be changed but never doctrine or dogma. He understands too that development of doctrine does not mean allowing the ordination of women as deacons but clarifying the anthropology and dogma of the unchanging Ordinary Magisterium of the Church so that modern people can understand what their culture doesn’t.

Here is Crux’s article:

Is Parolin actually papabile?

As pre conclave jockeying begins, some are touting the Secretary of State as a possible ‘consensus candidate’

Paul VI was a disaster and destroyer of the Latin Rite Liturgy. For that alone, his suspect “sainthood” should be revoked. We do not need a repeat of that disastrous papacy!

Paul VI was largely a coward in my estimation. He was well aware of the disaster unfolding after VII, he was VERY WELL AWARE of the Freemason infiltration of the Curia and he did NOTHING with maybe one exception...Bugnini to Iran. TJM is right; we do not need more of the same. We need a courageous younger Pope who will say "NO". No more! We need a Pope who will immediately, and with force, swing the pendulum back to center.

The only modern pope who merits canonization is Benedict XVI, a holy, thoughtful man who tried to bring liturgical peace and clean out the homosexual filth in the clergy

A consensus candidate making peace with error will just bring more of the same, if not worse.

TJM and Tom, good points--Paul VI is the basis of an argument against the infallibility of canonizations. What's his public cult, three old women in Milan? As for his pontificate, the best that can be said is that he tried to close the floodgates after throwing them open with terrible effect. His episcopal and cardinalatial appointments were memorable mostly for being disastrous. Bugnini to Iran and Humanae Vitae are, as best as I know, the two good things he did, and they must be weighed against a lot of bad decisions.

My understanding is that Jill Biden and team are pushing for Joe to be added to the conclave ballot in case the US thing does not work out. He is, after all, the second most recognized Roman Catholic in the world, right behind the current pope, every bit as Roman Catholic as the current pope, and just as great a unifier.

In regard to the notion that Humanae Vitae "prevented" Pope Francis from having "ordered LBGTQ ordinations and marriages and the overturning of the Church’s anthropology of sexuality, gender and natural law":

Said Encyclical "prevented" the above in the same way that Humanae Vitae had prevented Popes Blessed John Paul I, Saint John Paul II, as well as Benedict XVI, from having ordered the above.

That is, as loyal sons of Holy Mother Church, each of Pope Saint Paul VI's holy successors had/have upheld Church teachings teachings related to Holy Matrimony as well as human sexuality.

Years prior to 2013 A.D., then-Cardinal/Archbishop Jorge Bergoglio had opposed the Homosexual Lobby's Satanic war against Church teachings related to "LBGTQ ordinations and marriages and the overturning of the Church’s anthropology of sexuality, gender and natural law."

Deo gratias for God having raised Jorge Bergoglio to serve as His holy Pope.

Father McDonald said..."I DON’T THINK HE HAS THE PERSONALITY OR ENERGY TO BE THE NEW POPE..."

Father McDonald, in regard to your point related to Cardinal Parolin's level of energy:

Pope Benedict XVI insisted that a Pope's energy level has become a vital factor in regard to a Pope's ability to, in effective fashion, teach, govern, and sanctify the Holy People of God.

Father McDonald, you may be on the right track in regard to your concern that Cardinal Parolin lacks the energy to serve as Pope.

We will see as to whether Pope Benedict XVI's opinion in question is held in high regard among Cardinals when they gather to elect our next Pope.

Pax.

What an interesting article, Father!

I am sure you and your commenters have a much better understanding of this than I. But I have thought - for a very long time - that the man with the Faith and spine for being a pope in these times is Archbishop Chaput. I am a bit biased, since I am also a Franciscan (Third Order - TOF).

I know His Excellency has aged out and is retired. But he has been consistently honest, humble, faithful, and has lived his life as a servant of Jesus and His Church. He has also proved to be ready to defend the teaching of the Church courageously when necessary.

Just my two cents. God bless and protect you and all here!

Prior to Pope Francis, archbishops were elevated to the college of Cardinals not only because of their skills and character but also because they were/are archbishops of large metropolitan archdioceses. In the USA, Philadelphia has traditionally had their archbishops named cardinals. The pope normally would name someone an archbishop of these cardinal archdioceses who were proven to be cardinal material. Archbishop Chaput is certainly such an archbishop. But he’s not progressive enough for Pope Francis and thus was snubbed by the pope. Benedict, if he had not resigned, surely would have made him a cardinal.

The same is true for the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the larges diocese in the USA with ver 5 million Catholics. He is a bit more progressive in some areas but is a member of Opus Dei. He has be snubbed and in a horrible way by Pope Francis who name the bishop of San Diego as a cardinal.

Pope Francis has a vindictive streak and likes to humiliate those who don’t think as he does. I found it astounding that a reigning pope would engage in petty settling of scores when the newly released book quoted Pope Francis in gossiping about Pope Beneidct’s secretary, Archbishop Gaenswain and a hero of a cardinal, Cardinal Sarah.

Everything this pope condemns as untoward in terms of gossip, talking too much and settling scores, he participates in. I can’t imagine any pope prior to Francis doing such a thing and knowing it would be made public and in a book.

But with that said, the Cardinals can name any celibate man with proven skills and intellect to be the pope. Those archbishops in large metropolitan archdioceses which have traditionally had cardinals, but the current archbishop snubbed by the pope, could be elected. That might mean Archbishop Cahput or some other non-cardinal archbishop.

Hmmm, they will elect someone else someday. That is well above my pay grade.
I pray it is a priest who truly loves the Catholic religion, is not embarrassed by the unpopular teachings of our Faith and is not a thug Peronist Jesuit.
Other than that, I have no dog in the hunt..
