Oh, the humanity of it all! Praytell blog will no longer allow readers’ comments. It’s going back to a simpler format. But no readers’ comments! I suspect most people read that blog’s comments rather than the posts. Maybe they came to realize that? Maybe there’s a backstory to all of this filled with intrigue and film noir plots????? Will we ever know?
The blog is moving to a simplified layout, similar to what it had originally, which will make posting easier for contributors. In line with a reduced workload for moderator and student worker, beginning September 1st there will not be readers’ comments at the website. All previous comments since the beginning of the blog in 2010 will remain up. It is not anticipated that the number of posts will be reduced, and in fact it is anticipated that the frequency of posts might increase in coming months and years.

That priest is a typical liberal: suppresses opposing viewpoints even when expressed respectfully
If that's the blog with that somewhat rude priest admin/author, I haven't read it in years (what little I used to read).
It was always his way, or the highway with him shouting down or blocking comments that didn't align with his ideology.
That's a whole other church they've got going over there.
Years ago, via Pray Tell, Rita Ferrone had argued:
-- Let Deacons Anoint the Sick
"At present, Catholic Church discipline allows only priests and bishops to anoint the sick. I’d like to propose that, in light of the coming Year of Mercy, the Church consider an expansion of this ministry to include deacons and properly prepared and commissioned lay ministers among those who may anoint."
I replied:
CCC #1516… "Only priests (bishops and presbyters) are ministers of the Anointing of the Sick." 131. The CCC’s footnote in question referenced the Council of Trent.
In turn, Father Ruff labeled me a "fundamentalist." He then banned me from Pray Tell.

That reminds me of certain folks who have participated here.
Said folks are unable to block comments. Therefore, the folks in question have exhorted Father McDonald to block certain comments...actually, certain commenters. That is, among said folks are those who have called upon Father McDonald to have banned certain commenters from Father's blog.

Just the asinine comnents
Mark,
I don't care whose sandbox you're playing within, not everyone is going to agree, or get along.
I don't know what to say, it's life.
At least when sparing here, we're on the same page regarding fundamentals if that helps.
ByzRus said..."Mark, I don't care whose sandbox you're playing within, not everyone is going to agree, or get along."
Yes.
Within the sandbox is the whiner who expects everybody to play his or her game. Should the whiner not get his or her way, then the playground monitor will be asked to remove this or that person from the sandbox.

Mark,
I understand.
Experiences vary within this blog.
I would hope our recent peace accord activities extend to all - live and let live. The rules of engagement here are clearly 'let all have their say'. We're all adults and I'm responsible for my words the same as everyone else.
I think most blogs have carping to a degree. Its unavoidable.
I think we've been "around" each other long enough in this group that we would be able to get together for happy hour without anyone getting hurt.
In regard to censorship on blogs:
Father McDonald is amazing in regard to his willingness to post comments that differ greatly from his views. I am unaware of another blogger/twitter person, at least within the Catholic blogosphere, who permits the diversity of opinions that we encounter here daily.
Father Ruff banned me from Pray Tell.
New Catholic (Rorate Caeli) has delighted for years in having launched one vile, hateful attack, one fake news story after another, against Pope Francis, additional Churchmen, the Council, Mass...
But as I had discovered a few years (on his twitter page), New Catholic does not tolerate even respectful criticism in regard to his comments and claims. He banned me.
Novus Ordo Watch banned me.
Church Militant banned me when I challenged one of their countless fake news stories concocted to defame Pope Francis, as well as additional Churchmen.
-- BREAKING NEWS EXCLUSIVE: WUERL BOMBSHELL
August 30, 2018
Vatican arranges escape hatch
"Church Militant has learned from reliable sources that Pope Francis has directed Cdl. Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C. be spirited out of the United States before Wuerl can be arrested by U.S. federal authorities.
"According to sources, Pope Francis is afraid that if Wuerl were to be arrested and charged, he would reveal all he knows, and the DOJ case would lead straight back to the Vatican with the looming prospect of international criminality being exposed.
"Wuerl has apparently gone underground, and sources confirm with Church Militant, that it is the Vatican attempting to orchestrate his escape out of the United States."
==============================================================
On Father McDonald's blog are commenters who have exhorted Father to ban those who do not march in lockstep with said folks' opinions. It is unbelievable as to the level of intolerance that exists among certain folks who demand that one kneel and bow to said folks' opinions/comments.
Father McDonald, I appreciate greatly that your blog is open to diverse comments and opinions.
Thank you.
Pax.

OnePeterFive closed comments a few years back. In my opinion it made the site better. Comments are good if they are respectfull but that is not always the case.
