FATHER Z DOESN'T LIKE THIS; BUT I THINK IT'S COOL, MAN! WHAT SAY YOU?

Listen, anything that gets these pesky Millennials to pray is good news to me. Their immortal souls are in jeopardy otherwise, and not the game show for uncathechized youngsters! I just hope and pray to mother earth that it is Eco-friendly and  made of sustainable, renewable resources and does not harm mother earth especially when Millenials get bored with it and discard it.

The Catholic church have launched an "eRosary" bracelet, to rich etc-savvy millennials and help them learn "how to pray for peace in the world" and learn about the gospel.

The wearable device, which costs 99 euro ($109, £85),connects to the corresponding "Click to Pray eRosary" app and can be activated by making the sign of a cross, similar to how Catholics begin praying the Rosary.

It is made up of 10 consecutive black agate and hematite rosary beads, plus a data-storing "smart cross."

The wearer can choose between three options to pray; the standard rosary, a contemplative rosary or a thematic rosary, which will be updated throughout the year.
It also has personalised religious content, as well as health tracking.

The traditional rosary is used to aid prayer and meditation. Its beads are counted as prayers are recited.

It "serves as a tool for learning how to pray the rosary for peace in the world," according to a news release from the Vatican.

"This project brings together the best of the Church's spiritual tradition and the latest advances of the technological world," it said.

The eRosary launch comes as October is the month of the rosary.

The gadget is water-resistant and compatible with Android and iOS smartphones.

The world’s poor will flock to it. I have one made of stainless steel and requires that I memorize about eight prayers. It is Earth friendly, too: It is powered by the Son.

The description makes it appear to be a rosary shaped fitbit. Will it prompt people to pray the way church bells once prompted entire towns to pray the Angelus? Maybe. However unlike church bells or a rosary (which is a sacramental linking one with literally hundreds of years of tradition and community) this device would seem to reduce religious practice to a solitary private observance akin to being prompted to take one's vitamins. Its a gimmick, and an expensive one at that.

Do you think Father that eventually the liturgical books will become obsolete and replaced by electronic tablets and smart phones? You don't need an expensive four volume breviary anymore. All you need is to access iBreviary.com on your iphone or android. Oh, and it already has a number of liturgical rites on it.

In the meantime, we now find out, from certain "right-wing Pope Francis haters" (to paraphrase a certain poster here) that pro-abortion organizations are funding some of the organizing entities of the Amazon synod.

The corruption at the highest levels of the Church continues apace.

I use my iPhone brievery for personal use and with others in a more casual setting. I hope these devices are not used for solemn Church events and definitely not for Mass. our prayer books are sacramental, devices are not.

DJR said..."The corruption at the highest levels of the Church continues apace."

From the dawn of the Church to date, the corruption at the highest levels of the Church has continued apace.

We began with Saint Peter having denied Jesus Christ three times. Bishop Judas betrayed Jesus.

Some 2,000 years later, I am not surprised that nonsense has continued at the "highest levels of the Church." Are you?

Corruption continues apace among laymen.

We have lay bloggers and twitter folks who claim to be "traditional" followers of Jesus Christ.

However, day after day, said prominent laymen spread lies designed to defame Popes, Cardinals, bishops, priests, fellow laymen...anybody who doesn't march in locks with said folks' views of Catholicism.

Corruption exists among Churchmen, religious, and laymen. Welcome to the Catholic Church.

If corruption has continued at the highest levels of the Church throughout its entire existence, as it certainly has, then it is not improper for laypeople to point that out in the present day, even if the corruption involves corruption among popes, cardinals, etc.

The thing that surprises me is people like yourself, Mark, who admit that corruption has existed and presently exists in the Church at the highest levels, but that it is improper for people to say anything about it. That is certainly nonsense.

Another thing that's nonsense is the idea that "followers of Jesus Christ" would overlook corruption simply because the corruption is engaged in by religious leaders. After all, Jesus Christ took his fight directly to the religious leaders of his day, railing against their corruption with righteous anger. Followers of Jesus Christ are not respecters of men, but followers of God: not sycophants to human sentiment, but warriors for Christ.

Mark Thomas: The PA report is "trash." All of that happened years ago. There is no "crisis."

Recent realities: Lexington priest removed by bishop. Buffalo priests involved in triangular relationship. Two priests arrested in Miami.

___

Mark Thomas: "Vox, the Vatican's official transcript of Pope Francis' remark in question differs dramatically from the above. The Pope's actual words and, just as important, the context, render things quite different from the initial quote. Wow! How different than...'There are parishes with parish secretaries who seem to be 'disciples of Satan'..."

When pointed out that his assumptions proved false, Mark Thomas later states:

"Again, while the English language translation contained a slight difference..." and that the rendition was done "a bit differently," and also, "but the meaning was similar."

Certain laymen do the above. Welcome to the Catholic Church.

I think I realize what Mark Thomas means by "right wingers."

Right wingers are those who desire, and for some reason, expect a HOLY Church. People like him are content with an un-holy Church.

So Mark, I guess idolatry was accepted in the early Church too. Enlighten us.

Mark Thomas, besides corruption occurring at the highest levels of the Church, do you know what else goes back to the dawn of the Church?

Hey, it's criticism and rebuking of the pope.

Remember Paul and Peter?

============================================================================

I don't have to agree with Cardinal Ratzinger's.......opinion.

When did a Cardinal's opinion become Church teaching?

Cardinal Burke, for example, declared that the SSPX is in schism. That isn't Church teaching.

Nevertheless, must we agree with Cardinal Burke in that the SSPX is in schism?

Ha MT really got you there DJR. Always looking for a way to escape. Wasn't JPII Pope when Universi Dominici Gregis was written? Some seem to be able to interpret that there just might be an issue with the 2013 conclave.

DJR said...

Mark, you stated that, when we hear the bishops, we hear Jesus Christ.

And you do that... until the bishops say something that conflicts with your opinion on a matter?

Who told you that Cardinal Ratzinger's opinion (regarding whether the Holy Spirit chooses popes) is inconsistent with the teaching of the Catholic Church?

You're the one who, based on your private interpretation of one of the Church's prayers, came up with your ideas on that matter.

But you have no authority in the Church, and therefore you can't say whether your opinion is right or wrong.

You're not different from a Protestant in that respect. You pick and choose what you want to follow. No different from others.

You have publicly accused "right wing Catholics" of all sorts of things that are demonstrably false.

Example: "However, the right-wing bloggers in question will never... ever... ever promote Pope Francis' condemnations of abortion...

You promulgated a falsehood, as a cursory reading of the links demonstrates.

When the "disciples of Satan" episode occurred, you bent over backwards to demonstrate how awful "right wing bloggers" are, Pope Francis never used that term, his actual wording "differs dramatically" from what the evil "right wing bloggers" are accusing him of saying, et cetera.

Then when it was pointed out to you that the "right wing bloggers" were actually correct, that Pope Francis had actually used the term "disciples of Satan" in referring to parish secretaries, as the Vatican itself admitted, you did an about-face.

All of a sudden, it was "a slight difference" and "a bit differently."

There is such a thing as honesty.

Pope Benedict XVI authored a 2007 A.D. book: Jesus of Nazareth. Pope Benedict XVI offered his opinions.

In regard to his opinions, Pope Benedict XVI said:

"It goes without saying that this book is in no way an exercise of the magisterium...everyone is free, then, to contradict me."

In light of the above, I don't believe that Cardinal Ratzinger's non-magisterial opinion as to the extent of the Holy Ghost's role in Papal Conclaves must be held by the Faithful.

Yep. I'm preeeeetty sure about that. :-)

Nope. When my (the bishops) bishop teaches in unison with the Pope, then I obey said teaching(s).

Please cite the CCC# or Church document that teaches that we must accept Cardinal Ratzinger's opinion in question?

Thank you.

You'll see it right next to the section that states the Holy Ghost chooses popes.

Then the following section discusses the disciples of Satan and right wing bloggers.

Mark Thomas: "Please cite the CCC# or Church document that teaches that we must accept Cardinal Ratzinger's opinion in question?"

DJR said..."You'll see it right next to the section that states the Holy Ghost chooses popes."

Translation: DJR, you have acknowledged that your claim in question is preposterous. That is:

On Bavarian TV, Cardinal Ratzinger said that the Holy Ghost doesn't choose Popes.

Therefore, I reject that supposed Church teaching (Cardinal Ratzinger's opinion) as I believe the opposite.

DJR, I asked you to cite from the CCC or Church documents that Cardinal Ratzinger's *******opinion******* in question is Church teaching.

You failed to have cited said "teaching".

We are not required to believe Cardinal Ratzinger's...opinion...in question.

Therefore, DJR, please cease your claim that I reject the supposed (non-existent) "teaching" in question.

Unlike you, in support of my belief in question, I can at least turn to the Church.

Again, from the Good Friday Roman Liturgy:

Let us pray

For our Holy Father, Pope ____________
That God who chose him to be bishop
May give him health and strength
To guide and govern God’s holy people.
