JUST WHO TRIED TO CONVINCE THE WORLD THAT SEXUAL PERVERSION ONLY EXISTED IN THE CATHOLIC PRIESTHOOD WHOSE BISHOPS AND OTHERS COVERED IT UP? HOLLYWOOD AND THE MEDIA MOGULS THERE AND IN THE PRESS, LIKE THE BOSTON GLOBE OWNED BY THE NEW YORK TIMES

Which is worse? Mortal sin or crime? Crime's punishment is temporal; unforgiven mortal sin's punishment is the eternal fires of hell. So mortal sin has the potential to be worse than crimes.

The media, both news and entertainment, both owned by the same people, had and have an agenda to discredit the Catholic Church because she teaches immutable divine truths at odds with the so called Hollywood culture which supports the radical left's political agenda that wants to neuter or change the Catholic Church because of the divine truths of sexuality, sanctity of life and the true nature of marriage among others that Holy Mother, Church teaches.

But when one finger self righteously points to others, four fingers at pointing back at the one pointing.

The Catholic Church teaches that all human beings, except the Blessed Virgin Mary, are disordered to their physical core, their genes and their spiritual core, their soul. This includes all people, no matter their religion or lack thereof, and also includes popes, bishops, priests, deacons, nuns, monks and the laity. We are all disordered to a lesser or greater degree in terms of our entire being to include sexuality. And yes, disordered genes contribute to perversion.

Thus concupiscence leads some to mortal sin, be they clergy or laity and the possibility of the punishment due unforgiven sin which is hell, or the temporal punishment due forgiven sin, either here or in purgatory. Justice for victims of sin, even forgiven sin, is mercy for victims.

Thus Hollywood and the medias they control are having their day in court as reported by the same media in the Los Angeles Times:

Interesting in the way that headline is phrased. I did read the article, but I wager most people will only read that headlines first three words and form an opinion.

Total Depravity? Disordered to their core, including genes?

Really?

Anonymous @ 11:09: Yep, disordered to their core, totally depraved in their will, and transmitted as a birthright through procreation. See Augustine.

The people that Hollywood have become and have come to represent have embraced the oppression of women and children as sex slaves, along with many other passions known as 'sin'. By embracing sin, defending it, and making money from it, they work day and night to avoid the only true sin in their world: hypocrisy. By espousing a value system of "tolerance for differences" they can justify their own perversions or potentially trade them for tolerance of someone else's perversions like carbon credits from one polluted cess pool to another. Caught in their hypocrisy of redefining female empowerment from actual respect and value to bullet proof bodices and bracelets, it is absurd to wonder why they are 'suddenly' turning on one another. The pact was broken the moment they were caught, just like a group of 13 year-old boys caught with a pile of Playboy magazines will immediately point to the one who brought them and 'protest' (in honour of John Nolan's proper usage) their innocence as co-victims lured into inequity. They will fail to point out that they scrupulously prevented anyone from attending that might have had second thoughts about their adventure and ratted them out.

The similarity with the priestly abuse ends there because the system the priests were supposed to support has always rejected that behavior and continues to do so. The error of protection was an intentional exploitation of charity as a weapon used by the fiends against those who valued it the most.

The lawyer in the article may actually think the situations are the same. He probably thinks that all people are the same. They certainly should be before the law, but he may be revealing a prejudice not just against Catholics, but against all men thinking that they are each the same as the posse of perverts that have conducted a decades long screening program to pick the people who run Hollywood. One can only hope this fire jumps the fence into our government and the rest of society to burn, as they like to say, the grass roots and rid us of these ticks.

Bee here:

"Priest sex abuse and Hollywood sexual harassment scandals: Cultures of cover-up, cruelty and corruption"

So where do you think they are going with this? Let me guess....it's those evil white men (or maybe just men in general) who create cultures of abuse of power... Lots of examples: media, Hollywood, Catholic Church.....

Oh brother.

God bless.

Nope, sorry, not Catholic teaching.

Depravity? Yes. Total Depravity? No! https://www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/depravity-yes-total-depravity-no

Among others, such as http://catholicbygrace.blogspot.com/2010/10/total-depravity-just-not-biblical.html

Your Protestant reading of Augustine leads you to err.

Oh, please Anon @3:24, that is obviously not what he meant and is not even a cleaver misstatement of it. It make you look illiterate.

What was written in Romans chapter 1 about those who worshipped graven images and idols in St Paul's day is just as true in our own day of those who worship idols of their own making.

18 "The wrath of God is indeed being revealed from heaven against every impiety and wickedness of those who suppress the truth by their wickedness.
19 For what can be known about God is evident to them, because God made it evident to them.
20 Ever since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes of eternal power and divinity have been able to be understood and perceived in what he has made. As a result, they have no excuse;
21for although they knew God they did not accord him glory as God or give him thanks. Instead, they became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless minds were darkened."

24"Therefore, God handed them over to impurity through the lusts of their hearts for the mutual degradation of their bodies.
25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26Therefore, God handed them over to degrading passions."

They knew that these things and their actions were wrong. For if they were ignorant of these things, could God in His just judgement hold them responsible in any way? If this were so, then where would justice be for these acts which are so obviously an offense to the laws of God and likewise to those laws of man which respect Divine Law.

The Total Depravity issue as treated by Augustine and Calvin is a complex one. Augustine saw TD as a flaw in the will...concupiscence. Our wills are totally depraved, but there remains in our intellect a capacity for choosing good IF our wills are redeemed by Christ. Because of Augustine's view that evil is deprivation of good and that being itself must be good because God created it, we cannot be totally depraved in our whole being (as Calvin wants to say) because there would be nothing left. Calvin saw Total Depravity as much more all encompassing...our entire being is flawed and depraved...our wills, our souls, our very physical selves. This view, of course, makes Christ's Sacrifice all the more triumphant and His total destruction of evil much more amazing. The blacker our souls, the more brilliantly Christ's light shines. Of course, Calvin comes dangerously close to implying that being itself is evil (which he does not intend), which is a denial of the goodness of Creation. I prefer the austerity of Calvin's view and, certainly, we cannot underestimate man's capacity for evil. But, there are theological pitfalls.

"...we cannot be totally depraved in our whole being..."

Correct. We are NOT totally depraved.

Yes, there are nuances, theological arguments and disagreements, pitfalls, as you say.

However, Total Depravity is not Catholic doctrine.
