Having accepted the invitation of the Heads of State and ecclesiastical Authorities of the respective countries, His Holiness Pope Leo XIV will undertake an Apostolic Journey to Uruguay, Argentina and Peru, from 6 to 17 November 2026. His Holiness will visit Montevideo, Paysandú and Florida, from 6 to 8 November; Buenos Aires, Córdoba and Luján, from 8 to 11 November; and Lima, Chiclayo, Cusco and Pucallpa, from 11 to 17 November.
The itinerary for the Journey will be announced in due course.

I am certain that Argentinian Catholics will shower Pope Leo XIV with a vast amount of love and enthusiasm.
However, incredibly, just 55 percent of Catholics in Argentina view Pope Leo XIV favorably, according to the recent Pew Research Survey.
Conversely, the Pew Research Survey of 2024 A.D., the last one taken in regard to Pope Francis' popularity among Argentinian Catholics, reported that Pope Francis had enjoyed great popularity.

I imagine that following the end of his visit to Argentina, that Pope Leo XIV's popularity there will increase. He will follow Pope Francis in that regard.

Various Catholics in Argentina most definitely expressed disappoint that despite having come close to finalizing details, Pope Francis had not visited his native country.
But disappointment does not equate to rejection.
That is why even to the end of his earthly life, the overwhelming amount of Catholics in Argentina had held favorable opinions of Pope Francis.
The 2024 A.D. Pew Research Survey, for example, noted that the overwhelming amount of Catholics surveyed had expressed favorable views of Pope Francis.
But of telling importance is the tremendous public support that Pope Francis had received among Argentinian Catholics who had countered then-presidential candidate Javier Milei's vile verbal attacks against holy Pope Francis.

Francis' popularity declined at home
Argentina celebrated Francis' becoming pope with an ecstasy otherwise reserved for the country's three World Cup soccer championships. But that initial excitement over the former archbishop of Buenos Aires faded as the years passed.
A recent Pew Research Center report showed that Francis' popularity had dropped more in Argentina than anywhere else in the region over the last decade. About 64% of respondents said they had a positive view of Francis in September 2024, compared with 91% in 2014.
"There are many among us who think he made mistakes. Not everyone in our community is proud of the association," said Adriana Lombardi, 62, a retired teacher in Buenos Aires, referring to traditionalist Catholics in Argentina and beyond who accused Francis of leading the church astray.
Some in Buenos Aires felt slighted by Francis' avoidance of Argentina.

Older churchgoers recalled the very confessional where Bergoglio, at age 16, had first heard the call to the priesthood. "It's odd because it seems like he has time for everyone else."
