THE BEST THING THAT THE EXTRAORDINARY CONSISTORY OF CARDINALS CAN ADVISE THE POPE ABOUT TRADITIONIS CUSTODIS IS NOT TO MEND IT BUT TO END IT! DO I HEAR AN “AMEN!”?

Mr. Kevin Tierney by way of “The New Liturgical Movement” blog hits the nail on the head as to why the extremely flawed and extremely damaging to the magisterium of the papacy, Motu Proprio, Traditionis Custodes should be abrogated not mended.

Read his great article in full by pressing the title. I provide a money byte below the title:

End, Don’t Mend, Traditionis Custodes: Guest Essay by Kevin Tierney

We are very grateful to Mr Kevin Tierney for sharing with NLM this insightful essay on the failure of Traditionis Custodes, which I am sure our readers will find especially interesting in light of the upcoming extraordinary consistory.

While normally this discussion centers on why people prefer the TLM vs the Novus Ordo, I’d like to look at the legislation itself, and the culture in which that legislation came into being. A striking thing about Traditionis custodes (hereafter TC) was that the plan had a single point of failure. By his own words, Pope Francis promulgated TC to bring about liturgical uniformity within the Roman Rite, because only liturgical uniformity could faithfully honor the Second Vatican Council. (“This unity I intend to re-establish throughout the Church of the Roman Rite.”) Since the bishop is the moderator of the liturgy in his diocese, Francis entrusted this task to the bishops… who mostly ignored it. This led to Francis changing Church law regarding the liturgy, removing the authority of the local bishop (in the Roman Rite) to regulate the sacred liturgy, and instead putting it in the hands of the head of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, whom he could more easily pressure into eliminating the TLM on a case-by-case basis. In doing so, he exposed TC’s single point of failure.

Spot on - end this ultra vires document issued by a corrupt anti tradition papacy and retire its enforcers!

Mister Mr. Kevin Tierney has a history of having trashed Pope Francis (requiescat in pace)/Traditionis Custodes. Therefore, it is not surprising that Mister Tierney would denounce/misrepresent Traditionis Custodes.

Mister Tierney's trashing of Traditionis Custodes is about as legitimate as the trashing of Summorum Pontificum as a monumental mistake. That is, I do not take seriously either opinion in question.

=======

But if it is legitimate to despise Traditionis Custodes, then it is legitimate to despise Summorum Pontificum.

If Person "X" is free to call for Traditionis Custodes' eradication, then Person "Y" is free to call for this, or that document's, eradication.

Pope Francis led the way. He despised SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM and those who embraced it. Thus those who despise TC have Pope Francis to thank. He led the way.

Okay, Father.

Anyway, Mister Kevin Tierney has a history of having bashed Pope Francis (requiescat in pace). Sorry, I do not take seriously his hit piece against Traditionis Custodes.

Father McDonald said..."Pope Francis led the way. He despised SUMMORUM PONTIFICUM and those who embraced it. Thus those who despise TC have Pope Francis to thank. He led the way."

Let us pretend that you are correct.

Then we are dealing with revenge/payback.

Pope Francis (requiescat in pace) despised Summorum Pontificum, "and those who embraced it" supposedly. Therefore, it is "our" turn to stick it to big, bad Bergoglio. Stick it to Traditionis Custodes. Revenge. Payback.

Disgraceful. I do not recognize such vile behavior as Catholic.

I find it unimaginable that holy Pope Leo XIV would throw in with Kevin Tierney, as well as those who seek revenge against Pope Francis/Traditiionis Custodes.

Hyperventilating about who is trashing what aside (along with more “viles” and “disgracefuls,” quelle surprise!), MT knows as well as anyone here that, as TC suppressed SP, another document can suppress TC, and that Pope Leo has shown little shyness in undoing the acts of his predecessor where he sees fit.

Indeed Pope Leo will decide after this consultation. I think he is more concerned that the modern Mass be celebrated well, engendering mystery, awe, and wonder. I pray he makes clear by decree that kneeling for Holy Communion is equal to standing and ad orientem is equal to facing the nave. He has said that the Modern Mass is allowed in Latin and celebrated it that way!

I've always thought of the TLM as the epitome of unity.

The motivation for TC was to eliminate a form of mass Francis didn't like as the Balkanization of the NO is representative of anything but unity.

ByzRus, spot on! When I was in Chicago, I went to a parish which was evenly divided between Hispanics and Anglos. The TLM united us instead of pursuing Novus Ordo Balkanization!

If Pope Leo makes any changes or corrections to TC I hope they are 'self corrections' that bring the document more in line with Church history, teachings, and unity. It is tiresome and very un-Catholic for popes to be countermanding each other based on personal views.
