WHAT DOES IT MEAN? WHAT DOES IT MEAN? OH! WHAT DOES IT MEAN? LET’S GET LITURGICAL!

Everyone is wondering about what is going to be discussed at the Extraordinary Consistory of Cardinals with Pope Leo in early January.

Of course, no decisions will be made during the consistory, but will help guide Pope Leo in His Holiness decisions going forward.

Liturgically, this is what is being reported:

(The Cardinals will be) discussing the liturgy through an “‘in-depth theological, historical, and pastoral reflection ‘in order to retain sound tradition and yet remain open to legitimate progress.’”

These are my usual most humble, but extremely astute clairvoyant thoughts on what the highlighted in red above means:

1. The biggest liturgical scandal in the Church isn’t that there is a widespread desire for certain clergy and laity to celebrate the Ancient Forms of the liturgy prior to the post-Vatican II reforms, but rather that the post-Vatican II Mass with its reforms are so miserably celebrated in most parishes throughout the world, with benign and malignant liturgical abuse.

In some cases the liturgical abuse is so grave, that it renders the Mass not only illicit by invalid.

Pope Leo must issue a Traditionis Custodis type muto Proprio to crush liturgical abuses and make bishops take the right steps to correct the grave abuses in their dioceses. READ THE BLACK AND DO THE RED WITH THE MODERN MASS. BE ORGANIZED, REVERENT, RESTORE THE TRADITION OF KNEELING FOR HOLY COMMUNION AND MAKE CLEAR THAT THERE SHOULD BE CONSISTENCY BETWEEN THE PRE-VATICAN II SANCTUARY AND THE POST-VATICAN II DECREES ABOUT SANCTUARIES!

2. Rescind Traditionis Custodis, issue a corrective muto Proprio about the Ancient liturgies of the Church and that these are “extraordinary celebrations” of the two forms of the one Roman Rite. The normal, operative liturgy of the Church is the post-Vatican II Mass which needs to be brought into continuity with the ancient forms in form, spirituality, style and reverence.

3. In order to reform the poorly reformed post-Vatican II Liturgy, Pope Leo must revisit Sacrosanctum Concilium and what the Vatican II Fathers asked of the future, conservative, traditional reform of the Mass.

To facilitate the reform of the reform of the modern Missal, Pope Leo will issue immediately an appendix to the Post-Vatican II Missal allowing the Order of the Ancient Mass to be an option, along with the PATFOTA, pre-Vatican II rubrics, ancient Offertory Prayers, three-fold “Dominus non sum dignus and the adjusted requiem Agnus Dei, Last Gospel, kneeling for Holy Communion, ad orientem, but all with the modern missal, and the inclusion of Septuagesima, ember days, etc, celebrated in Latin or vernacular.

That’s simple, no?

Well if Santita does that, and I hope he does, he should show he means business by removing the bishop of Charlotte and the Archbishop of Detroit, pour les encourager les autres!

OMG! You're not saying that you think that at Sunday Mass I should have to listen to the Roman Canon instead of the Eucharistic Prayer about the dewfall??? It's so BOOORRING! I mean, who cares if the rules say that Eucharistic Prayer II ought to be used only at weekday Masses? It's not like it's an important part of the Mass. Why, even the Vicar for Clergy in our (dysfunctional) diocese uses Prayer II in his parish's Sunday Masses.

I have told my new pastor that I love the fact that he uses the Roman Canon at Sunday Mass. He replied, "Of course," as if everyone follows the rules.

I'm lucky enough to go to Mass at a parish where a recently-ordained priest is assigned; he has the absolutely crazy idea that the Roman Canon should also be used when celebrating the memorial or feast of one the Saints named therein!

If only, not mere suggestions or "we need to". That's just wasted words.

I truly hope you Romans can rediscover the sense of wonder and awe that is so familiar to me being spoiled, liturgically, in the East.

While I am convinced the ultimate answer for the West lies with the TLM in some form, even if simply relying on its rubrics in the vernacular, perhaps the NO can truly be beautiful, and stunningly so, if one last document were issued mandating reforms that seem so obvious and needed. Such a document needs to be legislative, however, not a litany of suggestions that will only be forgotten, or ignored.

The business as usual prelates and priests run amok need to be quelled already. They can and should just go to the sinking Church of England where they can do whatever they please for the few who remain.
