Rorate Caeli is reporting that Pope Leo met with Fr. James Martin SJ at the Vatican this morning.
This is how Fr. Martin described his meeting:
Dear friends: I was honored and grateful to meet with the Holy Father this morning in an audience in the Apostolic Palace, and moved to hear the same message I heard from Pope Francis on LGBTQ Catholics, which is one of openness and welcome. I found Pope Leo to be serene, joyful, and encouraging. For me, it was a deeply consoling meeting. Please pray for the Holy Father! (source)
By saying Fr. Martin heard the same thing from Pope Leo as he did from Pope Francis, I hope that Pope Leo reiterated in no uncertain terms what Pope Francis told Nora O’Donnell of CBS’s 60 Minutes.
I hope too, Pope Leo reiterated what Pope Francis has stated (in defense of his novel FS) to Fr. Martin that in no way should these blessings be formal or arranged ahead of time, to be photographed and distributed worldwide, as Fr. Martin did immediately after FD. And that these are casual blessings for the individuals, not their union, not a formal or casual recognition of their illicit sex or disordered sex of any kind.
The video is cut short when O'Donnell asks the pope about "Who am I to judge" comment, where she says it isn't a crime to be a homosexual. We don’t hear the full answer of the pope, when he says “no.”
In fact, homosexuality is a crime in some countries and it used to be in some states of the USA. It is no longer considered a crime in any state of the USA as far as I know, but it is in Muslim and some African countries. It is in fact a crime there.
She should have said, “being a homosexual isn’t a sin (rather than crime). And that would be correct as the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches clearly.
It is sex outside of a licit marriage that is a sin, be it adultery, fornication and those disordered sexual sins that cry to heaven for vengeance. Even masturbation is considered seriously sinful in the catechism. I wonder if there are any Catholic groups promoting masturbation and asking for that to be blessed?
Of course sinners can be blessed. If Jeffry Dahmer asked me to bless him in a sincere way, I would offer that blessing to him as a part of my prison ministry and he could attend Mass and if he had been a Catholic, gone to confession, repenting of his serial murders, some quite disordered to say the least, he could also receive Holy Communion at my prison Masses.

Later that evening, a prayer vigil will be held in Rome’s Church of the Gesù with LGBTQ Christians, their parents, and other participants. The Vatican noted that “during the vigil, a rainbow cross will be presented, which was brought to Rome by a group of LGBTQ pilgrims and their parents.”
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what actually occurs. Perhaps this morning’s meeting between Pope Leo and Fr. Martin was to deal with any ideological manipulations of Pope Leo by Fr. Martin and the LGBTQ+++ groups going into the Vatican and at the Gesu. I think Pope Leo is quite savvy about him being ideologically manipulated or being duped by anyone for non-Catholic purposes.
I'm reminded of the lyrics of a popular song: "Slip sliding away, slip sliding away..." The cancer is metastasizing. I can feel it deep in my bones and we can see it in the numerous appointments that have already been signed off on by this Pope.
Father McDonald, the following is neither sarcastic, nor an attack:
For years, you had insisted that Pope Francis (requiescat in pace) promoted homosexuality, as well as blessings of same-sex unions. But as of a couple of weeks ago, you have promoted Pope Francis as having rejected homosexuality/same-sex unions.
Father, I applaud you sincerely for having recognized that Pope Francis had upheld Church teachings that concerned homosexuality/same-sex unions.

As far as I know, Father James Martin, S.J., is in communion with Pope Leo XIV.

I did not trust Pope Francis because of what he said and his gestures. In the video he is clear that the union is blessed because the Church cannot bless homosexual unions. That’s good. But he fails to say that illicit sex, even for a married couple, i.e. sodomy, is sinful. His view of the development of doctrine and the “sense of the faithful” concerned me too. So, FS begins processes where not only is an official statement about blessing individuals, which was completely unnecessary as priests always bless individuals, and I’ve blessed a slew of non-Catholics who asked for it, but did so within the context of a couple. That’s dangerous business. But Catholics and not a few, in the ideologies of Catholics who promote LGBTQ+++ and want all kinds of people to be able to get married the Church and all kinds of sinners without repentance to receive Holy Communion. I think they saw a champion for that in Pope Francis. I think Pope Leo will be clear enough to draw the line on that kind of nonsense.
Should have written “he is clear that the individuals are blessed, not the union…”
Father McDonald said..."I did not trust Pope Francis because of what he said and his gestures."
Father, Pope Francis' (requiescat in pace) teachings related to morals were clear.
If anything, my bishop, who had taught in communion with Pope Francis, reiterated said Pope's teachings related to sexual morality. Therefore, I was never confused in regard to that which Pope Francis had taught.
Father, in that regard, you were in the same boat as you could have turned to your bishop, Stephen Parkes, who would have assured you as to Pope Francis' moral teachings.

Cardinal Pell:
— "Francis said he’s a loyal son of the Church, and his record shows that. He’s a completely faithful exponent of Christ’s teaching and the Church’s tradition."
Francis said being gay was a “human fact” and “not a crime” and labelled the criminalisation of LGBTQ+ people “wrong”
I am unable to relate to Father McDonald's distrust of Pope Francis (requiescat in pace).
I am unable to relate to folks who do not trust Pope Leo XIV.
Archbishop Lefebvre, for example, did not trust Popes Saint Paul VI, as well as Saint John Paul II. The Archbishop did not trust our future holy Pope, then-Cardinal Ratzinger.
Oh, well.

I think Pope Leo wants to heal the divisions that threaten to split the Church. He may naively believe that if he can allow the TLM to continue under some abridged form of SP that the homosexual lobby will be happy to continue their activities as if there are two Churches under two forms of Natural Law. He will discover that the homosexualists and other departures from acceptable behaviour won’t accept mere Love and compassion but only being in control and making their carnal desires the only acceptable behaviours. Pope Francis found this out and was tossed around like a rag-doll trying to satisfy them. Leo is about to discover the same force.
Yes indeed! Remember that sacrilege and scandal at St Patrick’s in NY at the funeral of a LGBTQ+++ Catholic. They were almost copulating in the pews. It was outrageous! And I am saying that charitably.
Agreed the St Pat’s funeral mass for a trans wo/man was truly scandalous but the cathedral authorities should have done basic vetting checks like who it was they were burying and approving drafts of the eulogies (which should have taken place either before or after the actual mass). By all accounts they were given information about the trans wo/man beforehand.
He will discover that the homosexualists and other departures from acceptable behaviour won’t accept mere Love and compassion but only being in control and making their carnal desires the only acceptable behaviours.
A simplistic over-generalisation indeed! I’ve been to a number of dignified funeral masses for gay people.
Father McDonald, here are two reasons as to why I am puzzled in regard to your distrust of Pope Francis (requiescat in pace):
1. In regard to each Mass that you had offered during Pope Francis' Pontificate: You commemorated Pope Francis as the sure and certain guardian of the Catholic Faith.
2. You (and I) held/hold Pope Benedict XVI in high regard. In turn, Pope (Emeritus) Benedict XVI had proclaimed Pope Francis a holy, humble, outstanding Pastor, as well as theologian.
As Pope Leo XIV has made clear, Pope Francis, in trustworthy, outstanding fashion, served Holy Mother Church.

From crux 9/2: Last month eyebrows raised when LGBTQ publication Them magazine published a report saying Leo XIV planned to meet with the pro-LGBTQ+ group We Are Church, which is a coalition of various Catholic reform groups.
However, We Are Church immediately debunked the rumor by putting out a press release in which they clarified that they would participate in jubilee activities, but they would not have a private audience with the pope.
“We Are Church International wish to make it clear that we have not been invited to meet with Pope Leo XIV in October as reported in some media,” the organization said, saying they applied participate in activities for the Oct. 24-26 Jubilee of the Synod Teams along with other organizations.
The organization said that their registration was accepted upon submission, which in their view marked “a positive sign that confirms the Church is listening to everyone.”
“Along with many hundreds of delegates from around the world we look forward to hearing Pope Leo XIV deliver his address. But we are clear that no special meeting will take place with the pope and our group,” they said.
Regardless of what the pope might have "reminded" Father Martin about, here's what we are left with: A worldwide distribution of the pope with the most notorious Lavender priest in the world, and the assurance of that priest that the pope promised to keep Francis' "blessings" of disordered unions intact. There's no way Martin is going to say such a thing and risk getting in trouble, unless he is telling us the truth.
This is bad-timing and tone-deafness on steroids. After a Catholic Church gets shot up by another raging "trans" person, killing innocent children, THIS is the image the pope sends to the world. I can't waith to read the mental gymnastics that will be used to defend this indefensible disgrace.
Father James Martin offered the following update in regard to his meeting with Pope Leo XIV:
September 2, 2025 A.D.
-- Father James Martin: Pope Leo’s message for LGBTQ Catholics
https://outreach.faith/2025/09/father-james-martin-pope-leos-message-for-lgbtq-catholics/
Excerpts:
"As I knew from spending two weeks at his table at the Synod of Bishops last year, the new pope is a kind, friendly and intelligent man.
"...I found Pope Leo to be tremendously at ease, even jovial, during our meeting."
"But let me address what many people want to know: Pope Leo’s approach to LGBTQ Catholic ministry.
"The message I received from him, loud and clear, was that he wanted to continue with the same approach that Pope Francis had advanced, which was one of openness and welcome.
"So, it was very much a hopeful message of continuity.
"This is, in Pope Leo’s mind, naturally tied to “synodality,” the idea that the church must listen to people from all walks of life (including LGBTQ people) to become more open, more listening, more welcoming and more inclusive.
"Again, this is very much in line with Pope Francis’s desires and his famous words “todos, todos, todos” to describe the church.
"This is also in line with Leo’s public embrace of synodality, not simply as a Synod delegate, but as a pope whose very first speech after his election mentioned what is now a “constitutive dimension” of the church.
"For my part, I offered him some suggestions of what dioceses and parishes might do in terms of welcoming LGBTQ Catholics, which I framed in terms of five steps..."
"1) Acknowledge (that LGBTQ people exist at all and exist in the church)
2) Listen (at all levels of the church, as part of synodality)
3) Welcome (with pastoral outreach programs designed for LGBTQ Catholics)
4) Include (in parish and other ministries)
5) Advocate (whenever there are incidents of violence, bullying or harassment in the community)"
"After he encouraged me to continue with my ministry, and our half hour was up, I asked for his blessing and knelt before him to receive it.
"Overall, though, I hope that hearing about his desire to continue Pope Francis’s legacy of openness will itself be a blessing to all LGBTQ Catholics and to their families and friends.
"Finally, don’t forget to pray for our friend Pope Leo!"
Pax.

I meant to say "worldwide distribution of a PHOTO of the pope with...". And I did not purposely type an "h" onto the word "wait" either. Sorry.

"If you thought Pope Leo XIV meeting James Martin was shocking, this is even worse!
"Pope Leo XIV has met with pro-sodomy, pro-abortion advocate Sr. Lucia Caram
"Caram also denies the perpetual virginity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and advocates for sodomite 'marriage' in the Church.
"Caram is an Argentinian Dominican living in Spain
"First Caram, then Martin. Pope Leo XIV is signaling to the Church and world that he is in lockstep with Bergoglio's promotion of LGBT"

The reason being, at bottom, Fr. AJM hasn't been drinking/taking/consuming whatever has so thoroughly detached you from anything except your own opinions of the matter these long years. I'm not sure what's so hard to understand--it may be the lack of empathy you mentioned elsewhere.
Nick
Donnelly is disgraced.
Leo met Sr Caram but she also undertakes lots of humanitarian aid activities to Ukraine etc.
Fiducia Supplicans, even with the spin to claim it technically does not violate specific Church teaching absolutely violates essential Church practice in a most sinful and harmful way as illustrated by B. Addison in his article "The Unconscionable Pastoral Malpractice of Fiducia Supplicans" at https://www.catholic365.com/article/36754/the-unconscionable-pastoral-malpractice-of-fiducia-supplicans.html
DB - FS is here to stay so get over it!
It’s up to pope to decide what pastoral practices are consistent with church teaching.
