So many Catholics were thrilled beyond comprehension for all the simplifications of the Church, here liturgies, her Episcopal ceremonies and certainly the mocking of and dispensing of the Cappa Magna!
Too bad that Great Britain hasn’t learned the great lesson that the Church did at Vatican II in terms of their silly looking royal ceremonies!
The King and Queen of England, a once great colonizing empire, welcome the President of the USA and his wife:

Ah, but my child, royal ceremonies and trappings that proclaim earthly power and wealth are appropriate to earthly monarchies. Long live Diamond Jubilee State Coach!
The Church, although for a while she fell into the error of thinking she was an earthly power and, therefore, had a right to all the trappings of such - tiaras, cappae magnae, rings to kiss, etc., - finally came to her senses and wisely and with humility discarded all that monarchical nonsense.
Indeed we have a lot to be sorry for which is why the crown and Church of England (£100M) are paying retributions.

How much will your country pay in the future for restitution of your crimes today against free speech ?
Free speech is not absolute.
Let me just thank God for the American Revolution and that I don’t live in Great Britain! π¬π§
What should be the limits on free speech?
You have to love how Trump plays his ridiculous silly leftist opponents. He’s been called by the radical left, a Nazi, a fascist, a dictator, and an Oligarch! But today’s total welcome proves he really is a KING! π you’ve gotta love it!
Free speech is not absolute and has legally recognized limitations to prevent harm, including restrictions on speech that incites violence, hatred, terrorism, defamation, or constitutes harassment, alarm, or distress. Laws such as the UK's Public Order Act 1986, the Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006, and the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008 define these limits, prohibiting threatening, abusive, or insulting words and behavior that cause harm or incite hatred based on factors like race, religion, or sexual orientation. These restrictions align with international principles, which permit restrictions on expression only when they are lawful, necessary, and serve a legitimate public interest, such as protecting the rights of others or maintaining national security.
Examples of Restricted Speech
Incitement to hatred or violence: Speech that stirs up hatred against a group defined by their race, religion, or sexual orientation, or encourages terrorism.
Harassment, alarm, or distress: Words or behaviors intended to cause or likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress to another person.
Defamation: False statements that harm a person's reputation.
Treason and national security: Speech that threatens national security or involves treason.
Breach of the peace: Speech that is likely to cause a breach of the peace.
What the second state visit shows is that the UK is prepared to play up to a narcissist to protect its interests.
Won’t you get arrested for speaking about your King that way?
Lord have mercy BB! You need to immigrate, legally of course, to the USA! You point out why the American Revolution was and is so necessary. And you implicate all of Europe in your monster on free speech!
Monstrous attack on
Why do you trust a government to define all these terms, especially when that same government "prepared to play up to a narcissist to protect its interests"?
I wouldn’t want to live in the US, it’s so uncivilised!

Most of us didn’t agree with the Trump unfortunately visit but that’s not the way democracy works!

We already have Trump and Musk inciting violence in our country:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/sep/16/far-right-march-londoners-donald-trump-politics
Something in our country changed at the weekend. Like cities across the UK, London has seen protests organised by the far right before, but this felt different. Over 100,000 people filled the capital. Tens of thousands of them marched peacefully. But some violently attacked the police officers tasked with keeping Londoners safe. Elon Musk tried to rally protesters against our democracy, telling them to “fight back or you die”.
Don’t be fooled Kier and Charles Camilla and all of the royal family will be mocking and laughing at Trump behind his back!
“It didn’t help that Trump had aggressively pursued Princess Diana after her divorce—overtures that were rebuffed—and claimed later on a radio program that he could have ‘nailed her if I wanted to,’ but only if she passed an HIV test,” Mr Andersen wrote.
Years later, in 2017, the royals also apparently tried to “discourage” a planned visit by Mr Trump to the UK. Mr Andersen’s book claims that King Charles and his two sons “burned up the phone lines between Clarence House and Kensington Palace, with all three princes agreeing to work behind the scenes to discourage Trump’s visit.”
Great Britain has given our King a grand coronation! The King is to be congratulated!
Another reason for us to suck up to Trump to try and influence him about the urgency of aid to Ukraine…

big booby, give it a rest
The UK is sooo much more civilized, probably because you can be arrested for such disorderly conduct as sending a mean tweet.

Big Benny,
I can only observe nowadays as I live in the United States. But being born and growing up in Britain and immersed in British culture, and unless things have radically changed, I feel sure that most British people understand exactly what is going on with President Trump’s second state visit. The hyperbolic ceremonial underscores the point that the spectacle is intended to cater to the narcissistic personality of the Toddler-in-Chief, with tongue placed well in cheek. Am I wrong?
Oh and before people continue rabbiting on about censorship of speech in Britain—and I am not talking about Jimmy Kimmel, who seems to me to have been an extremely stupid man in making the comment he did, not to mention indecent—it is beyond rich for the MAGA types to complain about cancel culture practiced by the Left when they have themselves practiced it -- and continue to practice it even more extensively and intensively nowadays--beyond the wildest imaginings of those on the Left!

That is the problem with anyone's subscribing to an ideology rather than to principles. The memefication of our culture seems to pride "owning" the "other side" more than anything else.
I have just read this in the New York Times. Ignore the source, please. It is either true or false. If it is true, there would no longer be any pretense of living in a free country. First, they came for the late-night hosts, then they came for . . . well, you get the idea:
“Networks threatened: President Trump said federal regulators should revoke broadcast licenses over late-night hosts who speak negatively about him, a day after ABC pulled Jimmy Kimmel’s show “indefinitely” after pressure from the Federal Communications Commission chairman. Mr. Trump and administration officials have long championed free speech, but their actions — as well as their promises since Charlie Kirk’s killing — to guarantee it have been replaced by efforts to quash criticism. Congressional Democrats plan to introduce long-shot legislation to bolster legal protections for people targeted by the president for speaking freely.”

One can only hope that there will be a robust defense of First Amendment free speech and that the courts, including especially the Supreme Court, will be up to the task.

I was about to post the same comment. Trump is all for free speech but enforced a cancel culture on anyone who criticises him. Truly a man of principles and conviction lol.
This looks ominous, projecting Trump’s image over public buildings:
