POPE FRANCIS NAMES SAVANNAH’S CATHEDRAL A MINOR BASILICA

It will now be known as The Cathedral-Basilica of Saint John the Baptist. Congratulations to the outgoing Bishop of Savannah, Archbishop Gregory Hartmayer, Rector, Fr. Gerard Schreck, the Cathedral Parish and the Diocese of Savannah.

Certainly it is no coincidence, but a God-incidence, that the naming of the Cathedral as a Basilica comes on the heels of the historic high altar being used for the first time in more than 50 years for a Solemn High Mass in the Ancient Usage by none other than your truly!

Just saying!

Whoever the next bishop is, I hope he will make the Extraordinary Form more available to those of us in the Liturgical Wasteland of South Georgia.

When, oh when, will the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Augusta, be named a minor basilica? Plenty of parish history to include an Eucharistic miracle around 1820 when Fr. Samuel Cooper was pastor, as well as, beauty to justify it becoming a minor basilica. Can a small diocese like Savannah have two minor basilicas?

Yes very beautiful. I must also compliment you on your humility for wearing a beretta considering your view of the hat. It looks good on you!

Father McDonald,

Thank you again for what you are doing. I noticed all of the young altarboys, the future. Hopefully they will fall in love withe EF as I did as a lad.

They should just use the high altar all the time, for all of the masses.
