THE LATE BISHOP MORLINO OF MADISON REPLACED! WHAT WILL IT MEAN FOR THE LATE BISHOP'S AGENDA? TIME WILL TELL

Copied from Deacon's Bench:

The following email was sent around the diocese early today: Annuntio Vobis Gaudium Magnum – I bring you news of great joy!  It is with honor and great pleasure that I, currently the Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Madison, announce that His Holiness, Pope Francis, has appointed Most Reverend Donald J. Hying, the Fifth Bishop of Madison. The youngest of six sons, Bishop Donald J. Hying was born in West Allis, Wisconsin. Bishop Hying received his bachelor’s degree from Marquette University and… Read more

UPDATE! UPDATE! UPDATE:  HIS EXCELLENCY APPEARS TO BE OPEN MINDED AND NOT RIGID ABOUT THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM AND ALLOWING IT!

Milwaukee Confirmations

The Church Militant has 23 new full-fledged members. On September 14, 2013, His Excellency, the Most Reverend Donald Hying, auxiliary Bishop in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, performed the Rite of Confirmation to the new Catholic warriors at St. Stanislaus Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In his inspirational message to the newly confirmed, Bishop Hying described how holiness is appealing to people in secular society, and that they now have the grace to stand strongly for the Catholic faith in the face of possible persecution.

In the presence of His Excellency, a Solemn High Mass was celebrated by the Reverend Canon Matthew Talarico, Substitute of the Provincial. The confimands and their sponsors were able to praise and thank the Lord for the graces of Confirmation.

After Mass, the confirmands, their sponsors, family members, and other parishioners gathered around the newly constructed St. Joseph grotto in the yard of the rectory. Along with Bishop Hying, Canons and Oblates of the Institute, all enjoyed delicious refreshments and warm fellowship.

I have read several addresses offered by Bishop Donald Hying in praise of His Holiness, Pope Francis.

In that regard, Bishop Donald Hying is in line with Bishop Morlino (requiescat in pace) who issued high praise for His Holiness, Pope Francis.

Bishop Morlino viewed Pope Benedict XVI, as an astute theologian, given by God to inform us as to what we are to believe and understand as Catholics.

Pope Benedict XVI was the teacher, professor, theologian, in Bishop Morlino's view.

In Bishop Morlino's view, Pope Francis is the pastor in the field...a Pope in who, in merciful, simple, upbeat fashion, shows us by example as to how to live the Faith...a man in field who, in his way, attracts people to Jesus Christ.

Bishop Donald Hying has assessed Popes Benedict XVI and Francis akin to Bishop Morlino's assessments of Popes Benedict XVI and Francis.

As I noted via my initial post to this thread, Bishop Donald Hying has, over the years, expressed beautiful, upbeat, and thankful assessments of God's holy and great gift to us, namely His Holiness, Pope Francis.

Bishop Morlino (requiescat in pace) offered similar beautiful, positive assessments of Pope Francis.

Both bishops have viewed Pope Francis as God's holy and great gift to us...a Pope who is perfect for our moment in Church history.

Here are excerpts from one such wonderful assessment of Pope Francis that Bishop Hying offered:

https://catholicherald.org/herald-of-hope/bishop-donald-j-hying-herald-of-hope/excitement-about-catholic-faith-is-spreading/

"I have always been inspired particularly by St. Francis of Assisi, who breathed new life into medieval Catholicism by living the literal message of the Gospel with passion and purpose. His devotion to Christ crucified and to the Eucharist, his love for the poor, animals and all of creation, his joyful embrace of the marginalized and outcast kindled a fire in countless hearts by showing that faith in the Lord Jesus is truly transformative of the human person.

"Every age needs a saint, someone who understands the cultural and social moment in which humanity finds itself, someone who can proclaim in contemporary form the ageless and timeless message of the Catholic faith, so that people can understand and respond to the universal call to holiness.

In many ways, Pope Francis is that figure for right now. His passion for the poor, his devotion to the Mother of God, his embrace of vast crowds and suffering individuals, his challenge to a comfortable clerical culture in the church, his constant urging for believers to take the Gospel to the streets, his reaching out to atheists, agnostics and folks alienated from the church, his disregard for personal safety and papal prestige have all contributed to a remarkable global interest in what Pope Francis both says and does. Many dioceses in the world reports an uptick in Mass attendance since his election to the papacy last March.

"I hear the Holy Father calling us to be less concerned about our internal church conflicts and problems and to be more intent on the global mission of evangelization.

"He wants us to be a church of the poor and for the poor in ways that are of practical help to the millions who know only hunger and want.

"He is inviting us to embrace new approaches of conversation and dialogue with those who live far from the Catholic Church and do not agree with her teachings.

"He is calling us to always see and respond to the beautiful humanity of everyone who comes before us in a profound Christian personalism.

"At times, the media has interpreted the pope’s comments as a signal of future changes in doctrine and teaching. I do not see that happening.

"Rather, he is calling us to a fresh enthusiasm for engaging the truth of the Gospel and the perennial hungers of the human heart. He understands well that post-modern humanity will only potentially listen to the church when the love and mercy of Jesus Christ shine forth in her preaching and her action.

"Jesus loves people precisely in their sinfulness and invites them to conversion, once they have tasted the delight of his merciful Heart. The church, as the Body of Christ, is called to go and do the same. I see it happening all over the place.

Pax.

Father Z is thrilled with the appointment so he can't be a left-winger, left-winger, left-winger

If Father McDonald posted a story about the sky being blue, MT would break into song as to why PF caused it. This is getting old.

I agree, TJM. It is why I hardly say anything anymore. I am here for Fr. McD's blog, not MT's.

"Many dioceses in the world reports an uptick in Mass attendance since his election to the papacy last March."

The word 'many' doesn't really do justice to the truth. I would ask "what is meant by the term 'many?'"

A gallop poll determined;

"From 2014 to 2017, an average of 39% of Catholics reported attending church in the past seven days. This is down from an average of 45% from 2005 to 2008 and represents a steep decline from 75% in 1955.."

Of course Europe and Ireland's numbers are crashing.

Are these surging dioceses to be found in Africa? Maybe China now after turning over selection of bishops to the communist government? Oh, how the uptick in Catholic numbers in the middle-east? Must be great since Francis has been so understanding and reminds us that Allah wills all religions, even Christianity.

Yep, everything is just as rosy as can be.

In fact, boys and girls, the popularity of Francis can be PROVED by the tinier crowds that he draws in comparison with Popes of the past.

People are so enthralled with finally hearing a message that resonates with them rather than that old boring Christian junk, that they've take it to heart. People KNOW that protecting the environment is important to Francis and so they are staying home rather than using fossil fuels by driving or flying. Heck, even the ones that live close to where he is to appear, stay home for fear that if they walk over to hear him, they will accidentally breathe out some CO2 into the air.

Anyway, see? Anything can be proved.

Dan,

I like your thinking. I believe Francis did start out with a fair measure of popularity, but his popularity is not it was at the beginning of his pontificate. I guess the left fell out of love with him when he referred to abortion as assassination!
