He subsequently carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he was awarded a Master of Divinity.

He was ordained a priest on 3 June 1994 for the diocese of Grand Island.

That was pretty fast - Archbishop Aquila won't turn 76 until September, yet one of the worst Archbishops in America, Cupich, turned 75 almost 2 years ago and is still wreaking havoc in Chicago. The only thing that would mollify me is if they appoint Bishop Thomas Paprocki as Chicago Archbishop.

Yeah looks like he might not be kidding about how he will handle the age limit. He did float a "potential " 2 year extension for cardinals, and Cupich is about to turn 77. At worst, the ones who turn 80 seem to last for about a month after 80.

Paprocki is probably too old. We're it up to me I'd put +Hying in there. I'd also like an archdiocese for Bishop Fernandes, I would have picked Denver but it wasn't to be.

At the time of his ordination, I had the impression that +Golka was going to be OK. So hopefully this is good news, at least the Cupich auxiliary pipeline isn't flowing as fast now!

Does anyone know anything about Bishop Golka?

I am getting sick and tired of the clergy slobbering over the "poor!" I guess the Church hates the middle class and the wealthy or anyone that works hard for a living. And here's a newsflash for this prelate: our "poor" would be considered middle class in other countries. They have cell phones, the internet, automobiles, big screen TVs, etc.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Bishop Golka a few years back. He impressed me as an authentically kind, humble and thoughtful person.

When Cardinal Prevost (originally from Chicago) was Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, he certainly knew the Cardinal Archbishop of Chicago who was a member of the Dicastery. I've read that Cupich was "probably instrumental" in getting Cardinal Prevost elected Pope (although it had been said about the previous seven Popes I've lived under, "An American has no chance"). So, some have conjectured that the Pope "owes" Cupich and he won't be leaving anytime soon. More delicious would be if Cupich had to end his career and Bishop Stickland were appointed Archbishop of Chicago.
