THE POT CALLING THE KETTLE BLACK

Michael Sean Winters of the National Chismatic Reporter (NCR) has a diatribe against EWTN its other news outlets and Vigano's letter to the president. You can read it here.

But the laughable last paragraph is just tooooooo muchhhhh.

I hope these first-time visitors to LifeSiteNews are appropriately horrified and rethink what they mean when they call themselves "conservative," maybe even reconsider whatever biases they have against Francis. But, change their politics? Not a shot.
He should had ended by writing:

This could be the first step in getting the larger media to pay attention to the fact that there are more marginalized Catholics than just "those conservatives" who they present as a small fringe group.

I recall some decades ago when a number of bishops were none to happy when EWTN was first organized. I rather imagine it had less to do with theology than with their desire for control of expressions of opinion. Don't know what their views are today but they seem to have adjusted to the fact that EWTN is not going away.

In the late 80’s the bishops tried to form their own network which failed miserably. I suggested to my bishop who was head of the doctrine committee that they should simply use EETN since Mother knew what she was doing. My bishop went apoplectic!

There is no comparison between NCR (which is sometimes eclectic in its coverage and editorial direction) and LifeNews (which is frequently hateful and inaccurate). I’d like to know what organisations are funding LifeNews as I suspect there are many extreme right-wing groups using it to push a highly political agenda beyond abortion. I think all catholic (small “c”) organisations should be required to publish their finances and sources of funding - the transparency would be very illuminating.

I am British myself so I appreciate understatement, but to call the NCR "sometimes eclectic" is a veritable triumph ! The biases of the NCR are as constantly on display as those of Church Militant: for the latter the US Bishops are "Social Warriors" in the pocket of the Democrats (aka Party of Death) while for the former they are "Culture Warriors" in the pocket of the Republicans. Both the Michaels (Winters & Voris) are grimly predictable NCR's funding is dependent on the Conrad Hilton Foundation + subscriptions, CM only on subscriptions.
