Most in the Vatican do not have the intellectual nor spiritual capacity of these two, courageous priests. They are speaking truth to power!

God raised Joseph Ratzinger to have served as His holy Pope.

I believe that the following demonstrates God at work in Joseph Ratzinger's life: Following Adolph Hitler’s death, Joseph Ratzinger had deserted the Wehrmacht. Our future holy Pope had risked his life as a deserter from the German army.

Two guards had spotted him as he fled his post. Nevertheless, he had returned unharmed to his home. At his family's home, two SS soldiers had taken up residence forcibly.

Then-Cardinal Ratzinger, via his book, Milestones, stated in regard to the two SS men:

"They could not fail to see that I was of military age. And so they began to make inquiries about my status. It was a known fact that a number of soldiers who had left their units had already been hanged from trees by SS men."

"Besides, my father could not help voicing his ire against Hitler to their faces, which as a rule should have had deadly consequences for him."

"But a special angel seemed to be guarding us, and the two disappeared the next day without having caused any mischief."

Pax.

Mike Lewis has posted the following article to his Where Peter Is Blog:

-- 5 Quotes from Pope Benedict that changed my life

https://wherepeteris.com/5-quotes-from-pope-benedict-that-changed-my-life/

Below are the quotations. Following each quotation, Mike Lewis' article explains as to why that quote changed his life.

1. “Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction.”

2. “Intimate friendship with Jesus, on which everything depends”

3. “Q. How many ways are there to God? A. As many as there are people.”

4. “The Church does not engage in proselytism. Instead, she grows by ‘attraction’”

5. “Among you, in the College of Cardinals, there is also the future pope to whom today I promise my unconditional reverence and obedience.”
