From a 1969 Time Capsule and instead of forcing Jews to eat pork this is like forcing Catholics to eat meat on Good Friday because the authoritarian can make you through blind obedience and coercion, the ultimate clericalism:
Card. Heenan (Westminster), replying to one of his flock who wrote to him about the liturgical reforms in Feb 1969:
"This was a great test of loyalty to the Holy See. It is idle to blame the hierarchy of this or any other country for what is happening. We have to obey."

At the time, the prevailing mentality was: pray, pay and obey.
Though dismayed, I'm sure many fell into line.
Evidently, many happily fell into line as well.
What's done is done. However, it's painfully obvious we haven't learned from the mistakes of the past - the sins of our fathers some of which still wander the good Lord's earth.
Strangely, VII was exactly what the Eastern Churches needed. It freed us from Latinizations and allowed us to fully embrace our patrimony.
While I'm obviously happy and grateful, I do feel badly for those still suffering under the yoke of the perversion of the Council and the questionable implementation of its mandates.
The Roman Church is going to have to make peace with things being as they are for the foreseeable future it would seem.
I hope and pray a future pope will introduce a new oath against Modernism.
It perhaps could start with:
"I firmly hold and believe that the Holy Spirit was indeed blowing powerfully for many centuries before the Second Vatican Council was called; the Holy Spirit was, indeed, blowing powerfully from the first Pentecost through to Trent through to 1962 - thus I abandon any thoughts and actions based on the delusion that the Holy Spirit only really started to fully lead and inspire us in the modern era starting in the mid 20th century or from 1962-65."

And the Holy Spirit too was definitely at work in those early councils, those 7 (or 8?) very important councils, when east and west were united, of the first millennium.
And the Holy Spirit likewise was definitely at work when over centuries the Roman Catholic Church, drawing on tradition and scripture, and especially the 10 commandments, taught the basics of Christian morality, especially Catholic teaching (drawing on the 6th and 9th commandments) concerning marriage and sexual morality. Any attempt to tamper with or update or modify traditional Catholic teachings on ethics and morality in general, and marriage and sexual morality in particular…….I seriously doubt any such attempts could be inspired by the Holy Spirit.
