A BASILICA IN NATCHEZ, MISSISSIPPI—DELIGHTFUL EYE CANDY TO SAY THE LEAST

The daughter of Deacon Don Coates at St. Joseph Church in Macon, lives in Natchez and this is her Basilica. Stunning, no?

Why are you publishing these beautiful photos on your blog? Don't you realize you're going to be bringing down heat from the Vatican? The entire setup reflects your anti-Vatican II outdated ecclesiology!

Beautiful church indeed; just asking though, where is St John?

Good question! Also,I am intrigued by the structure behind the pulpit that seems to have a spire or corona over it—any ideas what it is?

This Basilica used to be the diocesan Cathedral. I suspect the spire is part of the old cathedra.

Beautiful.

Now, remove the unnecessary table that is lost in the photo and turn towards the Lord!

I checked with the basilica through email. Very nice folks

It is a cathedra. Though I could not tell from the pic it does face the altar, not the people and it is on the correct left side.

The bishop does use it when he visits.
