WHEN A POLITICIAN CAN POLITICIZE A TRAGEDY, THEY WILL

The Atlanta area experienced a Mass shooting that left many Asians killed and two non (white) Asians.

Atlanta’s mayor seems to have wanted it to be a hate crime against Asians. However, it appears that the murderer has admitted to a sex addition and saw these places as places of prostitution that exacerbated his addiction. There are many of these establishments throughout Georgia. Macon had a major problem with these establishments years ago and often these institutions are a part of sex trafficking operations and those employed are exploited as most prostitutes are.

Either way, it is a tragedy but it does not appear to be a hate crime against Asians, no matter how much politicians want to frame it as such.

It does not appear to be a crime motivated by religion, as one reporter asked those holding the news conference.

It appears to be a crime motivated by the sexual disorders this man is experiencing. And yes, we must name the motivation for the sin and the crime for what it is, committed by a disordered man and disordered sexuality. Only then can healing occur but if our society says there are no sexual disorders and makes it a crime to treat sexual disorders, then what do we expect?

God rest the souls of those murdered and comfort their families. May justice also prevail.

The sad part is that sex trafficking isn’t enough get the attention of media and politicians. They went through their main focus items, white racism and religion. The politicians and media have little to no interest in crimes within a protected racial group. It make one wonder when irony becomes parody.

Like to know more about his parents...certainly he was not living on his own at age 21, or was he? He certainly looks odd....like something is wrong with him.

But then you have nincompoops like this: "A conservative Republican senator who is convinced that the Arizona Department of Child Safety is facilitating the global sex trafficking of children removed from negligent parents called the police on one of his GOP colleagues, alleging that she threatened his life. Sen. David Farnsworth, a Republican from Mesa, filed a report with the Arizona Department of Public Safety this week accusing Sen. Kate Brophy McGee, R-Phoenix, of threatening him if he didn’t stop investigating the outrageous claim. He said he fears the children have been abducted and sold into a global sex trafficking ring, and said he has been holding meetings with DCS, critics of the agency and fellow lawmakers, including Brophy McGee." The hate crime legislation also includes gender as a motivation which clearly is a factor here - ergo this is clearly a hate crime.

Apparently, his family said he was a “deeply religious” man. We also know from police statements that he blamed these women for being temptations therefore projecting his own issues onto others. I’d be interested to know how he reconciled his religious values with the commandment ‘thou shall not kill’.

Finally, I’m willing to bet everything I have that he voted Trump not Biden - you connect the dots!

Secular ethics not morality, as a politician you should study psychology and you will learn that mental illness, addiction and psychotic episodes do not claim religious or political affiliation.

Law student,

LOL - if you are a law student we are in trouble. “Hate crimes” violate the US Constitution. No victim should have higher status than another victim based on race, creed, etc. that is a conceit of a braindead media who are essentially communists

Fr McD - As you don’t have any qualifications or training in psychology, you can hardly appeal to scientific disciplines as a basis to support your mistaken beliefs. Whereas actually I have studied psychology at undergraduate and doctoral level and work within the field of forensic psychology.

1. There’s no suggestion that this guy was experiencing a psychotic episode or had a mental illness so don’t muddy the waters.

2. Lots of people have an addiction but very few, in fact almost none, commit mass murder - so we can deduce that other factors were likely to be more significant.

3. Addictions do not necessarily indicate mental illness. Whether “sex addiction” is a psychological disorder is a highly disputed area and still a matter of scientific debate. Within USA it needs to be classified as such in order for treatment to be covered under health insurance. Outside USA, few psychologists would agree that it is.

The point is that this was clearly a hate crime directed towards Asian women. Psychologists would be interested in learning what were the factors associated with the beliefs and attitudes that contributed to this behaviour. I contend that his religious beliefs likely contributed towards his misogyny which was a driving factor to killing of these innocent women - but time will tell.

If it were 3 synagogues, black churches or even catholic churches that were targeted, there would be no questioning that this was a hate crime - so why the hesitancy doing so regarding asian women?

Last night, Trump during his Fox interview once again referred to the “China flu”. Today 8 Asian women and 2x as yet unknown men were murdered. Coincidence, maybe but I doubt it!

Gloria Deo said...

PS - You cannot consider these mass murders in isolation and they need to be placed within the context of 3500 physical assaults upon Asians in the last year.

You say that calling these murders as hate crime is to politicise them. However your refusal to name them what they are and blame other factors is what is really political.

Gloria Deo,

LOL - you are woefully out of touch. Democrats/liberals despise Asians because they do not fit their victim class favorites. President Trump is correct in referring to covid as the Chins Flu. Have you renamed the Spanish Flu or the German Measles according to your Chinese paymasters wishes?

Anon @5pm - it was his family that contacted the police and directly led to his arrest on the way to California.

Yes he does look odd and very similar to most of the odd-bods that stormed the Capitol on 6th Jan ie note the grungy facial hair.

Hate crime as a classification is absurd. If the man had an obsession with asian women in pornography and acted out his anger at his problem by striking out at asian prostitutes it does not mean he hates asians or women. It clearly means he doesn’t know how to address his emotions in a healthy way.

Anon 8:02. Never heard of Elder Abuse? That class gets and deserves "higher status" in crime and punishment.

Never heard of laws that require more severe punishment for murdering a police officer?

I'm glad someone, not you, knows that some crimes, based on victim and/or motivation are more heinous and deserving of more harsh punishment.

Unconstitutional? Nope.

For all the talk of "hate crimes", what is a "love" crime?!

It is not that the mayor of Atlanta "wanted" the murders to be a "hate crime against Asians.

Given the facts at present - "Asian American community battles surge in hate crimes stirred from COVID-19" - it is entirely reasonable to assume that this attack against Asian owned businesses in which 6 of the 8 dead are Asians is a racially based hate crime.

"As the U.S. continues its battle against COVID-19, it is also battling a rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans. A recent report found that hate crimes against Asian Americans in major U.S. cities surged by nearly 150 percent in 2020 —even as the number of overall hate crimes fell." PBS News Hour 16 March 2021

The murderer who confessed to the murders says it was not a racial hate crime attack. What need do we have of more politicized witnesses? Killing an unborn baby is held up as a right. No hate in that I guess. Absurdities of law! Mortal sin is mortal sin and if one dies unrepentant, of to hell for an eternity it is!

"The murderer who confessed to the murders says it was not a racial hate crime attack."

ANd there are murderers who say they didn't commit the crime at all... Or that they were only "defending" themselves... Or that they were sleep walking/murdering.

Yes, we know what the accused has said, and we also know what he has done. If his "addiction" was for Asian women and he chose, then, to kill Asian women, it remains an ethnically driven act, doesn't it?

Anon 11:07 - Laughing at an unprovoked attack on an eldery Asian woman only shows how sadly depraved you are.

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

In Georgia he could get the death penalty for just killing one white woman who may or may not have been associated with prostitution. If he gets charged with a hate crime associated with the Asian prostitutes, will he get multiple death sentences for it?

He hates his sexual addiction. He hates pornography that escalated it. He hates the prostitutes he paid, preferring Asians evidently.

Rather than getting treatment for his sexual addiction, rather than destroying his computers, etc, he killed prostitutes, we assume. He hates prostitutes, is that the hate crime? And how many death sentences should that earn him.

Absurd.

Conveniently, you leave out the "Asian" in your description of those he killed.

Conveniently, you leave out the "Asian" in your comments about the business owners.

As "absurd" as it may sound, "Jessie Dotson Gets Six Death Sentences for Memphis Mass Murder, One for Each Life He Took

By Naimah Jabali-Nash - CBSNews.com

October 14, 2010

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (CBS/AP) The same jury that convicted Jessie Dotson of savagely killing six people, including his brother and two young nephews, in a Memphis home two years ago, sentenced him to six death sentences, Tuesday - one for each life he took."

Fr. Allan J. McDonald said...

Are you advocating for multiple death penalties against any race of person and thus in opposition to Pope Francis' call to eliminate even one death penalty. What's wrong with you?

Murdering someone stems from hatred for the person or persons or what they stand for. A prostitute does not deserve murder unless of course, he or she kills an Asian and that's is a hate crime. Are you for real?

We know the races of the people killed. At least we can say it was a hate crime against prostitution and scapegoating them for one's own guilt and culpability.

I, like my Pope, am against the death penalty, even for hate crimes. I pray you are too!

Over the years, there have been a number of arrests in the area I live in of massage parlor owners and their employees and the vast majority were asian. Does anyone here know of any studies which show (if?) there is a predominant number of asians working in this industry? If true, this will be an important factor in the murderers defense
as far as the hate crime charge.
You know this person's lawyer will look into that prior to his hate crime trial.
It is horribly, terribly wrong that there has been an increase in hate crimes against Asian-Americans(due to the COVID-Chinese connection maybe?).
That may not necessarily be the case here. Stay tuned.

Anonymous said...

I'n not advocating anything at all. YOU said, "If he gets charged with a hate crime associated with the Asian prostitutes, will he get multiple death sentences for it?"

I simply stated the FACT that there seems to be precedent for such. I advocated nothing.

So, you go on a typical, meaningless rant.

"For real," six of the women he targeted were Asians because he has an addiction for Asian prostitutes. ALl three businesses were Asian owned.

Sophia here: Fr. Mc Donald- you are correct. So far there is no evidence that this horrific crime was ethnically/color motivated. Some (obviously not all)massage parlors of this type provide much more than massages, they are actually illegal sex trade businesses. The accused admits that he had frequented such businesses for just such a purpose! Clearly he should have reported the ones for which he could provide evidence, to law enforcement, not taken matters into his own hands, let alone kill them. It is not unusual for some such businesses to be raided, arrests made and the businesses closed because of such activity. The ones involved with this illegal activity sometimes are also involved with sex trafficking. You can bet Law Enforcement in Atlanta is well aware of this. Heck, Law Enforcement even in Macon is aware of this. Such arrests have also been made in and around Macon. The crimes he admitted to killing these people and injuring others (not only Asians by the way). And he also gives the reason why- he was overwhelmed by his own concupiscence and targeted the source of his temptation! Obviously this is not an excuse for what he did, but it is up to a court of law to determine whether it may be a mitigating factor. He clearly has mental problems and no you don't need to be a psychologist to draw that conclusion and in fact you would have to be a psychologist with a political agenda to deny that!

Anonymous at 8:39 p.m. on March 17:

The examples of the misleadingly named Spanish flu and German measles hardly help your defense of Trump:

https://www.history.com/news/why-was-it-called-the-spanish-flu

https://www.britannica.com/science/rubella

But then again perhaps all three cases will be consistent after all, if Trump turns out to be as accurate in his naming of the China virus, although the evidence to date does indeed seem to suggest China as the origin:

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-00502-4

The problem, as we all know, is that Trump was not using the term “China virus” as a neutral origin label but as a political cudgel to whip up the base—hence the demeaning mispronunciation of “China” and the coining of derogatory terms such as “Kung Flu.” Of course, we all understand, too, that Trump himself bears no responsibility at all for the rise of anti-Asian sentiment and attacks in the United States, or for the January 6 attacks on the Capitol, or for the rapid spread of the pandemic in the United States, or indeed for anything else. It is always someone else’s fault, and never, ever his. And his supporters (you included?) lap it up. Sad.

And yes, Biden probably also needs to step up and accept some responsibility for the crisis on the Southern border. Even though it is true that Biden inherited a very broken immigration system and most of the measures Trump adopted to stem the flow at the Southern border were very likely unlawful, so that Biden was right to undo them (the proper solution being for Congress to get on with it and do its bloody job instead of playing silly buggers all the time), the fact remains that the Biden Administration perhaps could and should have done more to discourage people coming from Central America at this time.

Biden comes to Atlanta today and wails about 8 deaths from the spa murders. But I wonder how many babies were murdered in Atlanta's abortion mills today. Probably more than the 8 spa killings? Why won't he fly the flag at half-staff on January 22 (for the unborn, not to mark the death of our 36th president, Lyndon Johnson).

As for the killer, did he really know there would be Asians at the spas he chose to commit his crimes?

Lots of blacks are murdered in Atlanta and Chicago every year---will Biden speak against that?

Anonymous 2 said...

Now, how was it put on another thread recently? Ah yes, I remember now:

Anti-Asian Attacks and Killings—but abortion.

What would some people do without abortion, the gift that keeps on giving? Without in any way minimizing the evil of abortion, sometimes I find myself wondering whether this continual invocation of abortion to disregard or excuse all other manner of evil borders on the sacrilegious because it shows more concern for unborn life than it does for the lives of those who are born. As for the murder of blacks in Atlanta and elsewhere, I can only hope that your expression of concern for them is sincere and not just a political cudgel.

Biden might be many things, and perhaps he demonstrates some inconsistencies, but I do believe his expressions of empathy are genuine and not calculated for political effect. And at least he has them, unlike the previous inhabitant of the White House, who appears to have no concern for others at all.

Anonymous 2 said...

Also, as we all so often do, you betray the nefarious influence of utilitarian thinking, which counts, measures, and calculates. In the divine economy, I doubt that the killing of eight human beings, born or unborn, can be weighed against the killing of thousands because every human life is precious and of immeasurable value.
