THE NATIONAL CHISMATIC REPORTER IS SPEECHLESS; IT CANNOT EVEN WRITE ITS OWN STORY ON THIS IMPORTANT BREAKTHROUGH; IT RELIES ON THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

The process the CDF’s statement will generate is this money-byte: YOU CAN’T BLESS SIN!

Vatican excludes gay union blessing as God 'can't bless sin'

"YOU CAN’T BLESS SIN!"

Oh, but you can... if it's the "approved" kind of sin.

"But in 1945 on Tinian Island in the South Pacific, where the atomic bomb group was based, three planes every minute would take off around the clock, Zabelka said.

From the interview:

"Many of these planes went to Japan with the express purpose of killing not one child or one civilian but of slaughtering hundreds and thousands of children and civilians -- and I said nothing. ...

As a chaplain I often had to enter the world of the boys who were losing their minds because of something they did in war. I remember one young man who was engaged in the bombings of the cities of Japan. He was in the hospital on Tinian Island on the verge of a complete mental collapse.

He told me that he had been on a low-level bombing mission, flying right down one of the main streets of the city, when straight ahead of him appeared a little boy, in the middle of the street, looking up at the plane in childlike wonder. The man knew that in a few seconds the child would be burned to death by napalm which had already been released.

Yes, I knew civilians were being destroyed ... Yet I never preached a single sermon against killing civilians to the men who were doing it. ...

Blessing the [atomic bomb] crews and their two missions was Fr. George Zabelka, the Catholic chaplain to the 509th Composite Group -- the atomic bomb group.

However - note that this CDF ruling does leave open the future possibility of blessings for celibate same sex civil unions (which I suspect most of any older gay couples seeking a church blessing / ecclesial semi-recognition would probably be)!

ah, the always secular, hostile, anti-orthodox, lovely Ms Winfield, who sees everything through modern rainbow coloured glasses, and who neither understands, not wants to understand the ancient and clear teachings. PERFECT for that schismatic paper.

"approved sin"? Anon154?

War, even a just war, as this one was, will always feature horrific excess. And many times, utterly unavoidable once the war begins. To have avoided this "sin", you would have recommended what course of action by all concerned from top down with your perfect 20/20 hindsight now 70yrs removed from the fact? Are you speaking out against the daily slaughter in our streets by drug dealing gangs and their addicts? Are you down on the southern border preaching against the carnage unleashed by the drug cartels? What action are you taking today to avoid complicity in this "sin" happening before your very eyes?

Anon 3:05 -

As Fr. Zabelka makes it perfectly clear, he (and others) knew AT THE TIME that the act was immoral, a view that is NOT based on "20/20 hindsight now 70 yrs removed from the fact."

"Many of these planes went to Japan with the express purpose of killing not one child or one civilian but of slaughtering hundreds and thousands of children and civilians -- and I said nothing. ..."

"Horrific excess" is no different from "collateral damage" in that both terms are dangerous euphemisms used to deflect from the sins of war and make them seem excusable. They are not.

What anyone may or may not be doing regarding today's ill has nothing whatsoever to do with anything.

Sad to say, news like this hurts the Church more than it hurts gays & lesbians. They will get married, but outside the Church. Most of their friends, families & co-workers will attend & note that they’d been banned from St. Mary’s or St. Joe’s or whatever and wonder why. People will see happy couples who just to love & be loved & share their lives. Just like any young couple. A few more people will decide that the Church doesn’t care about them or people like them. It is fashionable here to blame declining Mass attendance on English v. Latin or “wreckovations” or bad music or whether the priest is looking forward or back. If you live in the real world, you see how many people (gays, women, immigrants, minorities, progressives, abuse victims) are turned away because they believe they’re denied dignity & respect.

TJ, what you are describing is the paganism and narcissism of sinners who love their sin more than they love God. The call of Christ is conversion, turning away from sin and a lifestyle of sin. I know of no gay people turned away from the Church unless they make a scene in the church or draw attention to their ideology. And by that I don’t mean they attend mass as a couple or with their children, natural or adopted.

Once again the Church finds herself in a pagan society that will force her members, like Jews were, to eat “pork.” The Church is what is being persecuted, not gays in our society. Our society hates the Church and it hates the true God and the Splendor of his Truth. That’s the problem near TJ, pagan society that does not welcome the Church, marginalizes her and threatens her that if the Church does not genuflect to it and its dogmatic morality, she will die. But she won’t TJ. Don’t forget that.

Tom Joad,

I am sure that your observations are heartfelt. But the Mission of the Church is not to seek popularity or conform itself to the world.

Tom Toad,

Are you Anonymous K?

Tom Joad, I disagree. There are lots of Protestant Churches that are "progressive" "non-traditional" that are losing attendance. So what, if these people go to another a church for the ceremony. They or their guests probably won't be back. There are plenty of other churches these people can go to. Why would the Catholic Church need to appease them? The Church needs to do what it knows is right and not pretend it's something it is not in order to keep attendance. If Jesus wanted to have a large attendance, he wouldn't have let those disciples walk away in John 6.

Should there be a Council about same sex and these sexual revolution issues? Finally get together talk it out and condemn it and the dissidents like Helmet Schueller and James Martin.

Sophia here: A very strong Amen to what you said, Father. All too often the Church is being evangelized by the world, rather than evangelizing the world which is it's primary mission. The Church is about helping people to become good not just feel good!

The best response to Mr. Joad I've heard came from the late Cardinal George:

All are welcome, but on God's terms, not their own.
