CONNECT THE DOTS INFIDELS.

 

Prior to Vatican II, the vast majority of Catholics attended Mass each Sunday and the vast majority of those Catholics believed it was not possible to change the Church although in areas of discipline adjustments could be made and dispensations could be had on this, that or the other that did not impinge of Divine Law or defined doctrine. 

But Vatican II was that Pandora’s Box flung open to change and the expectation of change among a great number (I don’t believe a majority) of clergy, religious and laity who thought if one thing could change, like changing the Mass almost overnight, other things could change, like the prohibition against artificial birth control.

Pope Paul VI grew this expectation among Catholics itching for change in the “new and improve” 1960’s where everything was changing and made new and improved. Paul VI organized a committee to assist him  in making a decision about easing the moral law prohibiting artificial contraception. And many on the committee advocated for it. And you know what, the very pope who opened the hopes for a modern sexual ethic in the Church slammed the door shut with Humanae Vitae. 

And Catholics began to drift away from the sacraments and the Church, many stopped coming to Mass. And those who hated all the changes, overwhelmed by misinformation handed to them that everything could and would changed, drifted away too.

And now we have a kind of clone of Paul VI who himself opens the door to change and then slams it shut. Pope Francis did that this week by saying the Church can’t bless mortal sin and thus can’t bless same sex unions simply because some good might be accomplished in a lifestyle dedicated to mortal sin, meaning sodomy. 

We’re not talking about two chaste men or two chaste women living in the same house, no matter their sexual orientation. We are speaking about two or more people of the same sex living together for the purpose of illicit sex. That’s what they want blessed, not them as persons, but their illicit sex. They don’t want the Church to call it for what it is, fornication and sodomy. That’s what the Church can’t bless. 

And there is no need to bless unions that are not true sacramental marriages as though these unions or partnerships are “like” marriage or are “marriages”. Individuals may be bless, no matter who they are, for examples those who attend Mass and remain for the Final Blessing. It is extended to all, even the non baptized who might be present. It is the blessing of persons, not their sins. 

But more people will leave the Church over this, because expectations are that change can and will happen to  just about anything that she (Holy Mother Church) wants to change because they think the Church is a social institution subject to the same laws as secular institutions that must change if they are to survive. 

And Pope Francis’ progressive ideologies encourage this kind of thinking. Rather than making clear what the moral law is and then leaving it up to others in pastoral ministry to sort through various pastoral concerns, he starts with the exceptions. He supports secular civil unions. Mixed messages does a mess make. 

But the Church is one Divine Instituion with two natures human and divine. It is no secular institution and thus will survive without major changes that infidels demand. That’s a grace from God.
