DID I SAY THAT HUMOR WILL GET US THROUGH THIS SPIRITUAL CARPETBOMBING?

My mother who lived through the carpetbombing of Livorno, Italy during World War II had some very apocalypic experiences all of which could have led to her and her family's annihilation.

Yet, she survived not only physically, but also pyschologically and spiritually due to her Livornese sense of humor. The Livornese have an ablity to laugh and make others laugh even in the most dire situations.

I can remember my mom telling us, her children, and anyone else who would listen about her war stories. We all knew how horrible it was for her and her family and all who lived during the war, yet she told her stories in such a way, with a fantastic sense of humor, that we would all be laughing so hard that we were crying. The laughter was tinged with the knowledge of how bad thing were and how lucky and blessed we were to have our mom to tell us her stories with her Livornese sense of of humor.

This video should be seen in the same spirit. While it is a comedy about the Church of England, you can easily substitue Roman Catholic Church and bishops into this script!

"Yes, Minister" and "Yes, Prime Minister" were the cleverest, best written BritComs we ever had on Public Television.

If you want to see Sir Humphrey, brilliantly played by Nigel Hawthorne, get his comeuppance, this is one of the best clips!

add this one on who reads what papers in the UK, the list of people is hilarious, I'v told many people if you want to know how government works, any government, watch The Minister series, Humphrey is the typical deep state rat, suave debonair and totally smarmy, a two timing snake and brilliant at it to boot, Hacker's assistant is also fantastic as the long suffering aid to the Prime Minster. Truly a classic. I own the entire set, love them all.

I think Sir Humphrey is a dedicated, caring, intelligent, public servant! He has the "institutional wisdom" that many elected ministers/prime ministers lack.

While his actions are often self-serving, what's good for Sir Humphrey is good for the Nation!

Cheers!
