AS CARDINAL, POPE FRANCIS DIDN'T AVOID FANCY LACE, GOLD VESTMENTS OR EXPENSIVE CHALICES OR THE BENEDICTINE ALTAR ARRANGMENT

Yes, Virginia, this is Pope Francis before he was pope:

Then why is he now?

Good Father, St. Jospeh's needs a sterling silver altar frontal like the one in Buenos Aires.... Whoa

And your point is...?

My point is that Cardinal Bergoglio while certainly different in personality and style is not the anti-Benedict that he has been painted and in many ways, in terms of substance and clarity is to the right of Benedict. And the most glorious thing is that he gets away with it.

But, I see no cross on the altar. The altar cross is what Ratzinger advocated for years.

JBS Was Here: Do we know how long ago these photographs were taken?

Also, we did not have a cross on the altar at St. Josephs until about three years ago. Am I remembering correctly, Father McDonald?

Yes, but I don't think any other parishes in the diocese went the way of Macon at St. Joseph. Nothing was mandated only modeled by Pope Benedict.

I would like to have seen more but St. Joseph in Waycross did have a major day chapel renovation (in a more traditional direction) with a nice frontal and more elegant candlestands. In the main sanctuary we went from two ugly 80's floor candlestands to four (more elegant)candlestands on the altar. I would prefer to see six and the altar crucifix but I guess Father thought that would've been too crowded for the size of our altar.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the new pastor who is coming in June. I hope he will not undo the improvements that our current pastor has made.
