WILL POPE LEO ISSUE A MOTU PROPRIO AS STRONG AS TRADITIONIS CUSTODIS FORBIDDING LITURGICAL ABUSES—MEANING, CELEBRATING THE PAUL VI AND JOHN PAUL II MASS BY THE BOOK, READING THE BLACK AND DOING THE RED? I PRAY SO!

The Jesuitical America Magazine’s on-line article decries liturgical abuse, which is rich, considering Jesuits have been some of the greatest abusers of the liturgy since the 1970 Missal became mandatory in Advent of 1969.

At least, there is an implied repentance, but they needed to be explicit about how damaging the Jesuits have been to the renewal of the Liturgy with the 1970 Roman Missal. But, alas!

You can read their entire article Here.

Here’s a moneybyte:

However well-meaning the priest is in departing from the rubrics, the fact remains that it is a decision only he can make and that often draws attention to him. There is a word for that: clericalism.—THE EDITORS, America Magazine

My final comments: The only way out of the grave liturgical abuses by Jesuits and any and all priests is a strongly worded Motu Proprio from Pope Leo stating that all Catholics must be accompanied to the licit celebration of the Paul VI’s Mass which has absolutely no improvisation, liturgical abuses and horizontally oriented.

It must make clear that every priest who celebrates the Paul VI’s Mass should write a letter to the pope stating he understands the gravity of casual celebrations of the Mass and that liturgical abuses will absolutely be eliminated or suffer censure from his local bishop.

And priests who don’t follow the rubrics of the 1970 Missal cannot celebrate Mass in churches or with a congregation. Nor should their Masses be advertised.

The Holy Father must also clearly state that all the approved options in the Missal are legitimate and may be exercised at the discretion of the celebrant. If the new Mass is truly to be an alternative for the old Mass we need to end the suppression of those options that prevent it being freely celebrated in continuity with the old.

Father Anthony,

Suppressing the legitimate option of celebrating ad orientem which is embedded in the very rubrics of the Novus Ordo can't be done - reasons!

I noticed that the Summorum Pontificum Pilgrimages final mass will be at St. Mary Major in Rome where Francis is buried is a delicious bit of irony!

Yet in fact it is suppressed, sometimes implicitly and sometimes explicitly when bishops publicly forbid it. This is why Pope Leo needs to explicitly and clearly state the rights of priests to celebrate the new Mass as promulgated.

Anthony - So that visiting priest CAN demand that the one mass he is celebrating in a parish on a weekend be celebrated ad orientem, in Latin, with no female altar servers, with antiphonal chants replacing congregational hymns and local customs be damned.

After all, it is the RIGHT of priests!!!!

Father Anthony,

You and I agree. I worded it awkwardly. Ad orientem celebration is embedded in the very rubrics of the Novus Ordo itself but cannot be done in most diocese for highly dubious reasons. A bishop who does not allow it should be removed and suspended from the priesthood.

I am glad FRMJK that you have no planks in your own eyes as it concerns what you believe to be your right to change certain words of the Roman Missal not only in your own parish but other parishes when visiting. And I suspect that if a parish celebrates their Masses ad orientem with the bishop’s approval, that you would insist on celebrating it facing the congregation. “After all, it is the RIGHT of priests!!!!

K routinely displays his illogical positions and rank hypocrisy

I would suspect that a visiting priest would exercise discretion. A pastor would, however, have to negotiate with one of his parochial vicars. The horror!
