King Charles III approves the nomination of the Bishop of London, the Rt Revd and Rt Hon Dame Sarah Mullally, as the next Archbishop of Canterbury.
On another note, progressive Catholics are horrified, I mean, horrified, by the Archbishop’s tall and ornate miter calling it something Pope Benedict XVI wore! But my inquiring mind wants to know how the heck she keeps her zuchetta on under that miter with her boofy hair???? And how does the zuchetta look on top of all that hair without that tall, Pope Benedict miter??????

They don’t wear zuchettas.
The Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Georgia, who prior to becoming the Episicopal Bishop, was the pastor of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in South Augusta, a mile away from my Catholic parish of St. Joseph Church, wore a zuchetta on his head.
In a word, sick!
My dad said it’ll be the same in the Catholic Church soon. He’s 80 and has no objection to female clergy.
Mullaly was one of the few, if not first, to speak out for Justin Welby’s resignation although in muted terms. This obviously earned her some brownie points.
The establishment always picks one of its own, female or not. She's sensible and dignified, though, which are qualities in short supply in the C of E.
The Anglican Communion, crumbling for decades, will collapse shortly. While I don't think any appointment to the Anglican seat at Canterbury could've stopped this, this appointment may well accelerate it. Motus in fine velocior.

God bless him. He must belong to the Protestant Episcopal Church as American Anglicans self describe themselves in the USA.
It does seem to me that the Anglican Communion is as irrelevant as it has ever been in the last 60 years with or without an Archbishop of Canterbury. Of course, their Holy Orders, male or female are null and void. In fact, I had forgotten that there was no Archbishop of Canterbury for the past year. Were there 10s of thousands of Anglicans and tourists outside the Canterbury Cathedral after the pipe smoke in rings of circles came from the mouth of the King as he blew it out of his castle?
How can you pursue "Ecumenism" with this crew?
My dad is a devout Irish Catholic as you can get and I’d say most of his contemporaries hold similar views regarding the possibility of female clergy.
However, you raise a very important point - we may need to rethink zuchettos when we start ordaining female Catholic clergy!
In a word, sick.
…in slang, to mean outstandingly good or impressive. The slang usage is a reversal of the traditional meaning, with the correct interpretation depending entirely on the context, such as a "sick skateboard trick" being excellent.
One of the interesting commentaries in the English press suggests she needs to learn how to hold a crozier as at the moment she wields it like an oversized umbrella!
When they keep adding obstacles to reunion? It's difficult at best.

This explains so much.

The custom is that the appointment of AoC alternates between the Anglo- and Evangelical wings of the church, although Roman was Anglo and Welby evangelical so Mullaly should be Anglo which you would expect for the Bishop of London - although I’m not sure if this holds up in this case.
I've usually thought of Protestantism as a joke. I was wrong.
It's a blasphemous burlesque.
I wonder which basilica in Rome Pope Leo will permit the new Archbishop to celebrate Mass. I believe the last time was St John Lateran. Why not try for the papal altar in St Peters this time. Somehow I don’t believe anyone over there will have a problem with it.
Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Vincent Nichols welcomed the appointment. “She will bring many personal gifts and experience to her new role. The challenges and opportunities facing the new Archbishop are many and significant. On behalf of our Catholic community, I assure her of our prayers.
“Together we will be responsive to the prayer of Jesus that we ‘may all be one’ and seek to develop the bonds of friendship and shared mission between the Church of England and the Roman Catholic Church.”
Francis Davis, professor of public policy and communities at the University of Birmingham, noted that some of her theological education was with the Society of Jesus. He told The Tablet, “Delighted with an ecumenically-minded Jesuit-educated appointment with a family connection to the workers’ champion Cardinal Manning . Especially admirable is that so much of her nursing, theological and pastoral studies have been undertaken while working – we need lifelong learners and think againers.”
Well they let the papal nuncio celebrate mass at Canterbury cathedral…
