I ADMIT IT; I DON’T GET IT BUT MAYBE I DO? SUPPRESSION OF THE TLM WITHOUT SUGGESTING A MODERN MASS CELEBRATED IN LATIN, AD ORIENTEM AND KNEELING FOR HOLY COMMUNION

Christ is at the center of all Masses, in their proper canonical forms in the East and West. The problem with the West, as compared to the East, our liturgical heritage was denigrated by what some call the liturgical renewal after Vatican II.

Rather than allow an organic renewal based on the letter of the law of Sacrosanctum Concilium, a completely new rite was developed, with a new order and the gutting of many of the quiet prayers of the priest and a replacement of the offertory prayers altogether.

The worst thing, though, was making optional the Scriptural Propers of the Mass, the Introit, Offertory and Communion chants. This guaranteed the loss of Chant, either in Latin or the Vernacular, where hymns to replace these were allowed and then almost universally implemented.

Scrupulous rubrics, almost an obsession in the older Mass, were eliminated except for few of the rubrics Unscrupulousity now reigns at it regards the rubrics of the new Mass.

The worst thing, though, in the immediate implementation of Vatican II was the denigration of all that had preceded. The old Mass and the old Church were seen as horrible, corrupt and in need of serious reform.

In reality, though, the reform ever needed is the reform of the People of God through conversion, repentance, right faith and the practice of the right faith. All of that was sent to the back seat in order to reform rites and structures of the Church and to make Vatican II a god that seemed to replace Jesus, the Risen Lord, as the center of the Church.

Will Pope Leo lift the restrictions that Pope Francis and Cardinal Roche placed upon those who had freedom in the Church to worship Christ through the TLM in the most liberal ways because of St. John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI ?

I hope so. Pope Leo XIV seems like a very reasonable Catholic. He seems to appreciate our Catholic heritage and he seems not to despise that heritage which is his and ours.

Being made to hate your heritage is not Catholic. It’s not human. It’s evil.

It just goes to show what many suspected all along is true. The “trads can go to a reverent Novus Ordo” is a bait-and-switch. The rigid, spirit of Vatican II ideologues ultimately won’t allow it, once they think they’ve snookered the faithful into it.

Well said, Father McDonald. It is evil and these "men" will have to answer to God for their abject cruelty.

There is a high probability that you will be denied your experience by another here. VII has been deified - even canonized - and those who hold so dearly to its principles seem brainwashed not realizing the extent to which it has
been turned into a golden calf. You almost need to step away from its ideology into what had been, or the East to see how bad it really is and how blinded its adherents have become.

It is no great secret the Church is losing people, even in Africa. Parishes are closing and when the boomer generation is gone, such closures might greatly accelerate. Benedict XVI predicted this. The TLM adherents will be a significant core of those that remain.

I hope Leo realizes that all is not well, the springtime has turned into a drought, it's now generational, in part man created and how possibly can this be allowed to continue?

To note: It's not all milk and honey in the East. We have a similar problem despite our liturgy being intact. In a way, we are representative of the Roman Church to come, small, yet strong among those who remain.

I've wondered if it's even possible to compete with worldly cares anymore. They are so pervasive and the will of the masses seems so aligned with those cares. To them, we are abnormal with our sky god, magic beads and bread. And it happened so quickly. I do hope our new pope is thinking about the antidote.

Apparently, the 5 most vibrant Catholic churches in America, per a poll on Twitter.

I'm just going to say it here and now: Leo is essentially Francis 2.0 and I do not expect any substantive changes of direction. It is going to be full speed ahead when it is all said and done.

Tom Makin,

Then why woułd Pope Leo appoint Cardinał Sarah to celebrate these Masses? Pope Francis bounced Cardinal Sarah.?Leo bounced Achbishóp Paglia, a Francis appointee

The sooner the hierarchy recognizes what a flop the Novus Ordo is, the better off we will be. It needs to be significantly reformed, the closer to the TLM, the better. That "bishop" in Charlotte, North Carolina, is a cruel despot, like Francis. Both will answer to God for their abject cruelty
