ITS A NEW DAY FOR PAPAL AUDIENCES AND THE NEED TO ACCOMMODATE LARGE CROWDS AFTER THE DWINDLING OF CROWDS UNDER POPE FRANCIS

St. Peter’s Square is prepared for tremendous crowds at Pope Leo XIV Wednesday audience. During the reign of Pope Francis, there usually were chairs only in the first section and maybe a few in the second, but never were there chairs in the third section all the way past the obelisk!

This is a screen shot I just took from the Vatican YouTube live feed:

At the same time, I'm not sure the Fresh New Beginning of a papacy can be fairly compared to the Sad, Wearied End

Father McDonald,

You will find this article from The Pillar in 2021 amusing in which it was speculated that Bishop Prevost was a dark horse candidate to become Archbishop of Chicago if Cupich was appointed to a post at the Vatican. There is a picture of Pope Leo with the late Cardinal George of happy memory.

It's sad that such comparisons have to be made, but it seems people again want to hear the voice of the Shepherd.

Hopefully, this level of engagement continues.

Wow, to be received by His Holiness in a papal audience, and able to ask something of him, such as, "Uh, yeah, man...like, who cuts your hair?"

It’s a new day, Bob! Time to get over your Francisitis. Just saying…

Pray tell, by what alchemy did you manage to transmute an old Cheech and Chong line into Francisitis? If I could guess of any way this papacy might possibly trend in a poor way, my guess would be along the lines of Paul VI, anyhow.

Actually, what I am wondering about, while everyone else is doing nothing but not-Francis/halleluja/new springtime/new day/not-Francis/fresh air/new evangelization/like another JPII/not-Francis/prognosticating/predicting/projecting love fest over every not-Francis detail of his haberdashery...

is more along the lines of new from-nowhere guys of meteoric rise under Francis grabbing headlines, Prevost with the papacy, Reina as Cardinal/Vicar General of Rome/now Chancellor of the JPII by you know who...both of apparently (to date) moderate inclination, and I am wondering who was recommending to Francis that these men so unlike Francis and relative outsiders be promoted so many times so speedily....and not someone like Cupich who jetted to the Vatican regularly seeking to go over the head of Prevost on appointments, Prevost appointments also seem moderate (to date) except when Cupich got involved. So, I am wondering if there has been a more moderate clique in the Vatican working to dodge Francis II, and if so, who would be the players....am watching now to see whom else Prevost names to what post and whether Franciscovites and/or long time insiders keep their posts...this hardly seems as something Parolin would have engineered unless it were a plan-B, and that will show yes/no by what happens with Parolin oet projects or even his position.

People are going because it is worth going to see! I seem to remember Balthazar reminding the post-Vatican II world of the importance of beauty.
